what causes a piston rod to snap?

is it timing? lack of lubrication? temprature?

d16z6, temps were always normal and only intake and exhaust bolted up. i heard a small tapping a few days before it happened and i have since swapped the motor and i am gettin teh same noise...

is there anything i can do?

well there are many things that could cause you to break a connecting rod....excessive heat, revving to high, too much boost.
I would drop your oil pan and check for metal flakes/chunks.
Does this tapping noise you hear sound like rod knock? or like valves that need adjusting?

how do you know? did you open her up and find lots of metal shavings/chunks? Or is it just your educated guess?
