Where Can I Get 10 Gauge Speaker Wire In Bulk?

Anybody know where I can get 10 gauge speaker wire in bulk or about 100ft? I re-doing my home theatre downstairs so I'm upgrading everything. I would prefer local but if you know of any good reputable online stores, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Freddy

May I ask why 10 awg?

imported_Thrill_House 08-Oct-2006 09:37 PM

Unless you a running an excessive amount of power across a really long run of wire then you should be ok with 12 guage.

Dude even 12 gauge is overkill, 14 is too. 16 is more than adequate for almost any HT jobber

home depot, its cheap too

100 ft? that's hardly bulk! heheh..

Go to Sayal Electronics.

I noticed a difference between from 16ga to 12ga speaker wire for the home setup.

well what was your home setup and did you do a double blind test to compare. Thats the real only TRUE way to test.

In theory 16 gauge with 100 watts RMS per channel will go over 120ft per run without having any audible degration.

So for you telling me going from 16 awg to 12 is kind of hard to believe, unless you were running allot of power per channel and had very long speaker runs.

:dito: There's no need for 10 ga for a HT setup. 16 ga is more than fine. Just stick to a high quality wire with a good strand count.

Alright guys, I went to several shops and they all recommended 16 gauge wiring...

What a week though, spent about $600 in cables and speaker wires, all THX certified. I upgraded the receiver, centre speaker and rear surround speakers as well. :D Home theatre is now complete!

why did you spend so much on wiring? $600 wow what did you buy...

prolly could have picked it all up for under $100 on monoprice.com

Have you ordered from monoprice?

Upgraded all the following cables (All THX certified, most of them I had to buy 2-3 sets.):

- Audio cable
- Component Video Cable
- A/V cable
- Subwoofer Cable
- Coaxial Cable
- Optical Cable
- Speaker Wire
- S-Video Cable

I'm probably missing a few but you guys get an idea....lol...btw, I even have the SNES hooked up to the HT...lol.

My dad even bought a black leather reclining sofa just to compliment the H-T, I'll post pics in the members section soon.

Yes I have ordered from monoprice. The cables are just as good as anything bought in a high end store, without the price tag :D

THX certification is more of a logo or branding than anything. Its like buying into a Tim Hortons franchise, you need that stamp of approval to sell the timmies goods, but for an end user point of view it is overly pricey for some copper wire with a shield :D

Just to give you an idea, monoprice has some DVI cables under $8 for a 3ft unit, which if you buy it here its gonna be closer to $30.

I will never buy Monster Cables / Overly pricey cables and 3ft speaker wires that claim to be touched by god himself that sell fro $1000 a pair :p

I just hope this spending spree didn't set you back because really it wasn't worth it :D

imported_starboy869 15-Oct-2006 02:44 PM

DVI cable for $8 :D

I was checking prices out on those anywhere from $30 to $75. WTF!! I was planning on using from my video card to my 19" LCD Samsung 930B.

imported_Bruce Fee 17-Oct-2006 10:19 AM

a cable is a cable.

i buy that stuff from Sayal at Victoria Park just South of Steeles

:dito:

Best Buy... FutureShop and Monster are making a killing from these wires that people worship because of some fancy shielding and clever marketing.

Stick to quality oxygen free... well sheiled cables and you won't notice a difference between the million dollar monster cables and a lesser-known name brand for 10% of the price.

I have to give it to Monster though for their marketing schemes.

I've asked many FutureShop employees to explain the difference between the Monster cables and some quality no name brand cables.... they've always answered "Monster is much better cause it's made by Monster... if you spend thousand's of dollars on your HT... why would you cheap out on cable"...... you gotta love marketing!

bbarbulo 27-Oct-2006 08:33 PM

guy, get the good ****.... individual strands all braided together.... almost looks like strands of t90 all braided.... think it was 16 runs. loudsubz you know what I'm talking about?

bbarbulo 27-Oct-2006 08:36 PM

anyways, american sound in richmond hill has the cables I'm talking about.
