stereo and clock problems

I drive a 96 teg and my stereo is a cheep jensen. My stereo and my clock won't work. It seems like threre's no power going through my stereo cause the security light won't even flash, but i don't get why the clock won't work either. Sometimes my stereo would all of a sudden have power and my clock will come on with it but once i turn my stereo on, the LCD lights on the stereo and the clock will start dimming and shut off after awhile and come back on later again. This process repeats itself. When my stereo shuts off, the maintenence light on the dash would go on and off too. When i do get my stereo to work, it'll stay on as long as i don't set the base too high. When the base is too high, both my clock and stereo lights starts diming and later it shut off. Only my clock and stereo dims, nothing else. I already checked all fuses including the ones attached to the wires of the radio. All were fine. I tried jiggling the wires while the stereo is on to see if it was a lose wire somewhere but that didn't affect the stereo. I've checked my battery and it was well over 14 volts. I'm not running any amps, just the 4 stock speakers. PLS HELP!

I would first of all re-do the wiring using a wiring diagram off the back of the old deck or out of a repair manual. Solder it, or use bullet style crimp on connectors. Do one wire at a time... ground, ACC+, POS+, Remote B (PWR ANTENNA), front speakers, rear speakers, then take care of the leftover wires. Before you put everything back, turn the key and test your stereo. If it's till doing it...AND you are SURE every wire is hooked up right, then it's time for a deck that didnt' come from Walmart or CT

yup... thanks
just got it now

i double checked all my connections and they all seem fine
i'm gonna have to go out tomorrow and buy a multimeter so i can check it all out....
i think it has something to do with the 12v constant because every time i start my car the clock is resetting itself back to 1:00

so Jon, does it get any power at all??
if nothing, yank it out and pop yer hood..
hook up the ground to ground and the 2 power wires to the positive terminal of the battery..anything??
if not, she's crapped..
if so, then what i'd do is run power leads to the fuse panel..
one constant one switched..

with all these problems going on i'd say the older gen's can't handle the load of the more powerful decks or sumtin'..

just got home about 15 ago..

As long as the wiring is correct it should work.

I have a aftermarket deck with my clock and it works fine.

I suspect others have been in there before Jon.

I have the helm's electrical manual if needed.

the problem is fixed on my car now
what happen was there was a shortage somewhere in the main wiring harness causing the stereo and clock to malfunction.

i learned it the hard way
i was driving oneday and my car went up in smoke!!
when i opened my hood there was a small fire where my wire were being shorted. i got it towed to honda and they told me my main wiring harness and the engine wiriing harness was fried!
**** it caused me 4g's to fixed everything.
i hope that doesn't happen to you
