Rear Seats- NEED HELP NOW

I am currently swapping 6th Gen COUPE seats for 5th gen HATCHBACK seats. The new seats are not only darker but they have many benifits. They are higher, softer, more suportive, more comfortable, and more conforming to your back, the fabrics are wear resistant and MUCH SOFTER to the touch.

AS GREAT AS THESE SEATS ARE I HAVE RUN INTO SOME PROBLEMS.

They rears do not mount the same way as the 5th gen's.

The fronts were a very simple swap that only required the seats be bolted in and the drives seatbelt harness was connected. The rears however don't look like they are going to bolt in. i am wondering if anyone has done this before and knows how to BEST modify the 5th gen hatches to recive 6th gen seats. The seats them selves will fit size wise it just seems like the orignals are using pegs on thier sides to fold where as the sixths us more of a hinge (which i dont have on the 5th). If any one has any advice on this swap please let me know

I will probably need to customize the rear seats or possibly swap the apoholstry on these seats to achive a uniform look in the car now i am just hopin gthat someone else may have gone through this first..if not i'll reply with a how to once the conversion is done and be happy to show pics of the rear bench conversion....

Also if you know how to remove the stock seats from either gen and could write a quick how to i would appreciate that very much. as it might help me to see another avenue to take in this swap.

Here is a pic of the front's that are alread installed

Martin. The rear seat removal for the bottom cushion is easy, all you got to do is take out the bolt that us behind the back seat, and is down hiddne behind the seat but you will see it, you remove it, then tilt the bottom cushion forward, and then pull up once its in a 90 degress angle.

For the folding back part, just take out the 2 bolts on either corner that are attached to hinges.

This is for the 5th gen sedan, but im sure the process is very similar to your GF's hb.

Im pretty sure thats all the steps for taking out the seats, Ive taken them out a few times and Im trying to remember if this is all you need.

It shouldn't be too hard, once you get the bottom cushion off its very easy for the rest, just gotta look around for the bolts etc.

Okay - I think you are talking about the backs of the seats...

they are held on very simply.

When the seat is at a 45 degree angle, run you fingers down the outside of the seat (the side the panel is on) until you hit a peg. This peg actually has a small clip pressed onto it. Turn the clip and pop it off. It may be tough but it will come. This clip is actually just a spacer to make sure the seat stays onto the pegs that act as hindges.

This will all make sense when you do it.

Okay, now that you have the clip off, you should be able to move the seat towards the window. You will see that the clip has exposed a peg, slide the seat so that peg is more "in the seat"

What this does is removes thge peg on the otherside of the seat and you should now be able to pull one side (the inside) of the seat of it's bracket.

Do the same for the other side.

Sorry if this sounds confusing, but basically just get that spacer clip off and the rest just "happens"

Need a phillips, 10, 12, 13, 14, 17mm a big flat and small flat screwdriver. That should cover you, you may not even need all of them, but I know 10 and 14 you need for sure. Some needle nose pliers would be useful too. I took my 6th gen seats out a long time ago, so I forget. I just know if you have folding seats, there is a part in the center that acts as a hinge, and if that's not in the right location, you may need to weld one in. I hope you also got the side peices that go right next to the door and don't fold down.

so i have pulled apart the damn seats....and this is the conclution

NO WAY IN HELL WILL THEY FIT

the simple truth is thast the 6th gen use a hinge on the inside that is bolted to the seat's frame where as the 5th use a welded **** that goes into a pre set hole in the side of the car....

BUT I NEVER GIVE UP

enough ignorance will get anything to work...

so i tore off the apholstery and the padding from both and looked a bit closer and found that the padding and fabrics were cut from the same pattern and injected in the same style mold
(but from diffrent foams and fabrics) so i decided that once i took both apart i could swap 5th for 6th while using the same frames....

GUESS WHAT!!!

it worked one is done and the other is in progress

so for every one that is concidering this mod i say
FORGET IT ITS A PAIN IN THE ***....

i only do this crap cause it's my gf's car....man not even my celi gets this treatment....

ok back to work now i'll let ya know how it goes....pics tommrow probably...

including a nice plate from from ryanhook and some new vinyl from ZEAL GRAPHICS
