I jus got one after blowing my last sub...I'm honestly scared to blow it now so i dont even turn it up

Does anyone know personally after using this how much I should set my gain to, or when i should stop? Any smell at all starts to scare me now. The sub is supposedly a monster but i dont wanna risk ruining it

Im running a JBL BP1200.1 @ 2omhs into the sub, wich is an ORION HCCA 12" (2 ohm DVC) in a 2ft ported box. The specs make it seem a beast with 2" of excursion and recommended power handing of 600 watts RMS, but supposedly it can take up to 1200 rms.

I've read reviews of people hitting 141 dB with oen sub...I just wanna make sure my setup is right.

Thanks alot any suggestions would help.

if your worried, best bet is to run the single orion sub in series, so you end up with a 4 ohm load on the JBL. At 4 ohms the amp will only do 600 watt rms.

From there just go by setting the gains to ear, with a multimeter or oscilliscope, whichever you are most familiar with and feel comfortable doing. As long as the signal is clean and unclipped you should have no problem running that sub for years.

how are you running the amp @ 2ohm with a dual 2 ohm VC sub??
impossible if you're using both VCs

you either have it running at 1 or 4

i think i have the dopped dropped to 1 ohm...the person who installed it for me said i'd have no problem running that amp at 1 ohm because of something to do with regulated power supplies on the amp

I would run it at 600, but at the same time i want as much as possible without risking anything... also how will i know if the signal is being clipped without an oscope, and what should i watch out for (smells, sounds)

Yesterday driving to school i was "blasting" it and i started to smell a very cheesy smell...could that be burning VC?

well if your worried why risk it? you gotta pay to play. If you run it at 1200 and blow the sub its nobodys fault but your own. (if the sub is actually rated at 600 watt rms)

Just listen to the sub, if it doesn't sound right chances are your ears are telling you the truth. Smells can be deceiving because sometimes when the subs are new the glue melts a bit when its first burning in and you get a funky smell that will go away.
