need some speakers
hey guys
im getting really sick of my subs i have 2 12" JBL subs at 350 rms 800watt max but theyre wayy to heavy and keep sliding around so i wanted to know a GOOD set of 6x9 speakers that would give me both sound and thump (btw the 6x9s are going to be amplified with an insignia 200 rms 500 watt max amp)
i want these speakers to replace my subs but still act as speakers (hard to explain but is this possible?)
i wont mind if i have to make my 6x9's into subs and use my front as regular speakers
as you can tell i dont know much about sound so ya

Since nobody has mentioned this I will tell you that there in no way you can make a pair of 6 X 9's mimic any type of subwoofer. Oval speakers are only to appease the silly carmakers, see domestics, who somehow decided that a nice thin parcel shelf was the easiest way to mount speakers. Thus was born the 6 X 9. I am not sure I have heard one that sounds really good. You couldn't pay me to remove any sub, no matter how bad it was and replace it with a boxed oval speaker. If weight and size is a concern why not go with a single sealed eight and secure the box to a side panel so it doesn't flop around. Oh and when describing a speaker, the wattage means nothing. A 250W speaker is no louder than a 20W speaker. Its the amount of wattage entering the driver and the drivers inherent sensitivity rating that determines the volume of the sound emanating from the speaker. Most of those ratings are only there to sell speakers and mean nothing in the real world. Drivers can handle alot of wattage if its undistorted but given distortion and my 3 watt per channel tube amp could fry that speaker in a hurry.

I had these pair of JBL GTO937 6x9's and they were just amazing. I think you will like them but they are discontinued and not to many ppl have them in stock nowadays.

What you are looking for are 6x9's that are not 2-ways or 3-ways but good luck finding a aftermarket pair cause they dont make them like they use to back in the days. Rockford Fosgate had something like that back in the days like 10yrs ago.

im really considering 2 8 inch subs and nail them to my side panels i was told theyre fairly light and in a way it sorta balances out my car (i guess)
i also saw a sub with an amp attached (it was in a cylindrical shape) i was considering putting that under my seat

Try to find a bose system for sale. my buddies mk3 jetta with bose sounds very good. not sure about the speaker count but as far as i remember 4 tweeters in front, 2 speakers in front doors. 2 speakers in rear dash and 2 tweeters in rear doors. has an amp, and that sounds very good. if i had that, i would not consider getting a sub. ofcourse you cannot replace a sub with bunch of speakers but in my opinion a good speaker setup is sufficient to regular music listening and unless you need to feel the bass changing your heart beat rate, subs are a waiste.

I feel your pain. I'm getting annoyed with the big box in the trunk (sucks when you can't use the trunk).
So im looking to put a 8" or 10" single coil sub behind the wheelwell off to the side with the amp on the other side.
No more crap in the back seat!

i would try and retro fit 8 inch subs into my side panels in the trunk but id probably lose out on quality cuz i wouldnt get the right specifications
right now im trying to look for those cylindrical subs with the amp installed i heard they weigh like 10 pounds

when i had my subs, i used the back seat seatbelts stretched to the trunk to hold them back. then had a bolt holding the seatbelts together. ghetto i know, but since i hardly ever have backseat passangers it was fine.

i have 2 10s .. pumps nice.. had quite a few set ups before, but i don't mind the weight of these .. the tube you're thinking of is it a bazooka? cause they aren't that good and no way it's 10 lbs cause that would mean the magnet is tiny as f .. generally sub+amp combo boxes don't fair well .. and don't think any sub would fit under the seats
