Gauge film?

Has anyone replaced the film in there gauges to a different color? I have heard of it being done and I want to change all of mine to blue. Also is there any way to make my white needles glow blue without doing that LED on the back of the needle thing? Thanks

it's not a film... use little light bulb "condoms" but good luck finding that color. Can't paint the bulbs cuz the heat of the bulb burns off the paint. And, maybe you can paint your needless in a glow in the dark neon colour, but I don't know how well that'll work.

I know of a member who replaced the film behind his gauges to blue so they look like reverse gauges. I have read on other boards that you just have to scrape away the film and replace it with colored acetate from grand and toy. Hopefully civicracers brother will see this and be able to help me out.

edit..........I also think that if you replace the top bulbs in the gauges with blue ones the needles will glow blue or look blue?

Umm... yeah, I know what you mean 'bout the film now... I guess it's doable... you can put like a filter on the back of the gauge... why don't you just try it??

Still, I think you need to paint the needles using one of those kids colours that glow in the dark, cuz they literally GLOW with just a little bit of light on them. That way you can keep white bulbs.

I will talk to that guy tommorow and see if he can help me out with doing the film thing. So i should look for some blue glow in the dark paint or its white paint that glows blue with normal light?

This is what you're looking for, and will prolly find it at hardcore hobby stores.

I got a LX one with no tach that I play at home with. But scarlemthug, just tape on the film using clear tape for now, and install it... if you like it, go ahead and paint the needles carefully, you can always paint them back to white if you wanted.

I think I would have to scrape away the original color (ie. turn signal is green) and then put the new film in?. About the needles, on the site its like $50 US for a small sample pack. I will have to look into it more before I go ahead and do anythin.

94EG6HB - Where could I get a gauge cluster from to play aroudn with?

Negative mang!! the turn signal lights are just kind put there... there is no scraping involved.... anywhere. The little black dots you see are needed there, even with the film in place... you'll see what i mean when you open it up. Don't worry about it... you can always buy one AFTER you **** yours... they're $150 from the wrecker, but maybe if you are careful you won't need to buy one.

The signals should just pop out......replace with a colour of your choice.....as for the gauges, remember to REMOVE the blue coloured condoms that are on the bulbs right now. (they should have them on the outside bulbs that light up the numbers/gauges)....if you don't remove them, your gauges might end up being too dark when you put the film in there.

As for the blue needles, you might have to go with a couple of LED's that are pointed toward the gauges. The LED will give the needles an erie glow, almost like a black light.

Yeah when I took my gauge out last week I noticed there was a bulb with a blue "condom" on it and I was wondering what it was. Maybe you can help me out with the LED thing ?

PULOVR is too busy to help ppl out with to-do projects, but he's a great resource for info.

Just start taking it apart, it will make a lot more sense when you do it.

I did my gauges, myself.
In the CRX theres a amber film which I took out.
I added a new film so I now have a bluish, slightly green gauge lights.
Cost me $1.50 to do.
