I've connected my ipod to my car deck with a dock connector. The connector powers the Ipod and acts as a audio connector all in one.

The only problem I have is that when I use it now there's a slight hum (engine noise) in the backgorund that can be heard when accelerating. I've tried adding a gorund wire to the cigarette lighter in an attempt to provide a better ground but that didn't help. The problem still exists when I use the dock connector only to provide power and connect the audio to the deck thorugh the regular headphone jack. I've also tried connecting a different Ipod and the same things happened.


Anyone else with the same problem? Any ideas? I'm open to any suggestions.

id have to guess the problem is with the connector, try getting a new one and seeing what happens

check your grounds on your deck and the ipod dock if its hardwired, any rcas crossing?

Try getting a piece of wire strip back the wire shield and wrap it around the rca of the i-pod connector and then ground the other end of the wire to the decks chassis.

yea i had that problem it was an rca that was crossing another one

i baught some things that reduce the noise and was ****ing with them and dident need them



on my deck it had 2 wires with a box on the end i duno what it was but if that was close 2 the deck that made a loud motor noise through my speekers so i tucked it far away from my deck and it all went quiet

so you're using your cig lighter for power??
try hard wiring it...

The RCA's are fine because I was using the exact same ones for my changer before. I've tried 2 different brands of connectors and the same thing happened.

Davis... That's a good point. I'm going to try grounding the RCA because I can't hard wire the power as it's an Ipod dock connector so there's more than just power wires in the harness.

I'll let you guys know how that goes but for the meantime please keep the suggestions coming.

i was getting shyt thru my Sirius when running the ciggy power..
hard wired it and she cleared right up.. (guess i should have mentioned that before...slipped my mind)

Interesting.... Whiplash. Yeah this is the first time I've used the cig lighter for an audio device. I'll have to pull the dash apart and try the ground wire on the RCA first. If that doesn't work I'll try hard wiring the power but I think that'll be real difficult because the cig lighter piece has the mini plug in it as well. I hate to hack it open but I can't stand the engine noise.... as I'm an SQ freak......

With the warm weather I finally got a chance to try to fix it. I hard wired it and it was the same if not a bit worse. Should I try a nosie filter on the 12V line?

The ground wire on the RCA's didn't do anything either.

Any more suggestions?

Goto radio shack and buy a GLI (Ground loop isolator) and it will fix your problem. Had to do it with my XM..Id make sure you have good grounds aswell, but the GLI will fix it.

FINALLY FIXED!!!! Thanks Playboy.... the GLI did the job perfectly.... a nice easy fix.

I just had the same problem bought the GLI and i dont know how to install it cuz im terrible with electronics can anyone help? thanks

The one I bought just plugs inline with the RCA's so there's nothing to do but plug and play..... I'm not sure what type you bought.
