can my battery/altenator handle this?

Hi,

Right now i have 2 12" JBL's in my trunk running off a JBL 600 watt mono amp (GT0601.1II) which works awesome but i have componet JBLS in the front and 2 6x9's in the back. So i was thinking of getting a 4 channel amp ...because the speakers arent gettin near enough power.... my question now is if i get a 4 channel amp for my interriors and put a cap in the system ...will i be ok? how will my battery / alternator handle this. Because i know alot of people who have 2 + batterys ... so im wonderin would i have to go that route cuz money is tight . Thanks alot

i should also mention .. i have air conditioning cuz i know that effects the size of the alternator or so im told

you should be fine

adding another battery aint gonna do squat when the car is on, only for key off playing time

you got tons..

disagree with your comment re: spare battery tho Matt..
especially if you're running a relay/isolator

less line travel, larger peak reserve (depending on battery)...

well when the alt is on its only taking the current from there, but if the draw is too much for the alt its gonna dip into the batteries reserve to make up..so then thats where it would help out if you had a decent battery

imo, right now forget about the battery..
the juice you're sucking is piddly

if ya ever do wanna get a second battery get a batt-cap

as far as the optima as a direct replacement?? an optima will drain too so is the $300 worth the extra 15 minutes of pleasure you'll get?? ummmm, no
optima does good as a second, but that's about it..
i got better cranking off my oem than the 35D i replaced it with..
tho the little yellow i had in the back supported me nicely for audio needs

I have an extra yellow top I could sell you if you're interested, I took it out of my sunfire before I sold it and bought my civic, and it's too big for the civic..

Cap both the amps and you should be fine. Dimming is the only problem. Make sure you never run the system with the engine off and in ignition, thas all.

Pics below of the old setup...
its now been downgraded to 1 pheonix amp 1000watt, and 2 PPI 12's

capacitor will do nothing for your electrical system.
it will only reduce NOTICABLE dimming, wont help the amp/battery/alternator or any of that stuff.

i strongly suggest big 3 wiring upgrade, that should take care of you since your system wont be sucking too much juice.
