Smile Building a sub box, having couple questions. Plz read!

Hi.
I have a 10" Fosgate in a very nice ported box. However, I find the box to be quite large and bulky, taking a lot of space in my trunk. It also moves around once in a while.

Now I was thinking of building a sealed box to house my sub and fit perfectly in between the rear strurt towers (if I may call them!)
I also want to make the box as shallow as possible, so it takes as little trunk space as possible.

Now my question is, how does the depth of the box effect the sound and how shallow can I go, without sacrificing sound quality?

leave atleast an inch between the back of the sub and the back of the box. I doubt you will need a box that big for a single 10" so your best bet is to build it and just bolt it to the floor if u dont want it moving.

if the back plate is ported yes you have to space it, if its not pored then it don't matter...

the space is only to allow cooling...

as for the depth of the box in general, it has no bearing... the sub only sees the size of the enclosure its in... not what type or the dimensions... the box could be 1" high and 80" long and sound the same as a square box... (not 1" high would need alot of spacers for the sub to clear but you get the idea)
