best way to hook up subs?

Hi guys...

#1:
I just got two PPI 12" subs in box. Each are 500 RMS @ 4 OHMS (1000 watt peak) I can't find specs on them cause they are old. Will I need a voltmeter to check how many watts they are? or will I need another type of instrument? I don't have an amp yet. Should I get a 900 watt RMS amp cause each of the subs are 500 each? or should I get a 500 RMS amp. I don't completely know about bridging either. I took highschool physics, but forgot parallel and series connections. I was running 2 kenwood 12's (~300RMS each) with a kenwood 1000 watt 4-ch amp and those things pounded. I just want the optimal setup.

I'll be running 3 sets of speakers ( all of them are atleast 70 RMS and need to know what amp to get for those. ( i'm guessing a 4 channel for 4 speakers. The amp needs to have "crossovers" right? I have a RF amp and hooked it up to two audiobhan speakers, but i can't hear voices, only bass. I tried adjusting my amp, as it does have a switch with three options, but don't know what they stand for.

Please help. thanks. U can even shoot me a PM. Thanks in advance for the help

1. No you can't check with a meter to see what wattage they can take, best thing is to call up PPI or do some thorough searching on the net for specs.

Do they say 500 watt on each sub? are they the flat cone PPI subs?

2. Why 3 sets of speakers? Need more info ont hat setup

the reason you aint hearing voices is that you have low pass on, turn it to high pass and set the crossover to about 60hz or set it to full pass or OFF

Take it to a stereo shop it sounds like you don't know enough to be doing this yourself. However your RF amp will be labeled hp/?/lp put it to the middle if you want all frequencies put it to hp for high's only.

woah, thanks, thats what I wanted to find out on the amp. The only reason I wanna run 3 sets of speakers is that I want the words to over power the bass, and not the other way around. I had SHI**IER subs before, and those things POUNDED in my hatch, so I just got audiobahn and RF 6x9's in the back and sony 6.5's in the front. I can only run two amps cause I only have 2 preouts on my deck.

As for the subs.. There's NO model number on the sub anywhere (all it says is PPI 12'). The guy that sold them to me assured me that they were 500 EACH and were tested at futureshop, and i trust him. Just that they don't look like they are 500 RMS, thats all, but who am I to tell? Whats flat cone PPI? the top cone is not flat, but the thing with the coils that are under the cone are flat. I just wanna know what amp to get for my subs that will allow me to pound. As u know, I don't konw much about car audio. If I need a 500 RMS amp for both subs, why didn't I blow my kenwood 12's that were 350 RMS each with a kenwood 1000 watt amp? anyways, any help is apprechiated. thanks

when they say 1000 W amp, its not actually pushing out 1000 W RMS. get an EQ if you want better sound quality not more speakers. adding more speakers will just make everything louder.

that kenwood 1000 watt amp is not 1000 watt rms, its around 400-450 watt rms

as for FS testing your subs for 500 watt rms, its bogus, they will tell you anything to make a deal. The manufacturer will know what the subs can handle since they built the thing, FS could have ran 2000 watts to the sub for 1 sec and it would have likely survived, but that gives you no reassurance what the subs will handle constantly every day.

theres a ppi flat piston sub
