Question Audio question

Ok...Ive got a question for you guys...since you seem so helpful to everyone...Im looking to finish up my system but my embarassing lack of audio knowledge makes me inadequate when desiging my system...Mechanical work I can handle but Im lost fast in the advanced audio world....

Here goes: Im running a Kenwood KDC-MP922 deck that has three pairs of 5 volt pre-outs, one pair which is non-fading(see the deck here:http://www.kenwood.ca/kwcgi/kww001?c...item=KDC-MP922). Ive got sony 6.5" components in my doors with pioneer 6x9 three ways in a custom enclosure on the rear cargo deck in my 92 civic hatch. Im looking at putting two 12" memphis studio reference SVC (4 ohm voice coil) subs (200W RMS, 400 max) into a custom made box following factory provided specs. I plan to run this with 2 Clarion 400.2 amps that will be bridged. Now comes to the real question: If I actually need a cap, how big of one do I need? Will I need to upgrade my alternator? Should I get an optima battery or something of the like?

Any help you can give me appreciated....even if its about what hardware I should be using.....everthing is appreciated!

Like I said, Im lost

thanks

Jason

by the way, Im running a 4 gauge amp kit

For your system upgrading your alt will not be required nor should adding a cap be needed. My suggestions to you would be to upgrade your under hood grounds and upgrade the big 3. The big 3 consists of upgrading battery negative to chassis ground, alternator to chassis ground and then positive battery to alternator wire. Upgrade all those to 4 or 8 gauge wire and things should be fine. If you do notice some dimming with your system then you best bet would be to go to costco and pick up an optima red or yellow top battery and replace your stock battery with it.

If you want to just run a cap for looks and that added voltage then I would say a 1 farad cap would do fine with your setup.

A side not to all civic owners -

Optima now has a 51 series yellow top that is a direct drop in replacement for your stock civic battery tray.

first test what you have and see if you have any problems, if you notice slight dimming get a cap and see if it stabalizes the voltage. Upgrading the battery is good but wont help as much as a new Alt would.
