Question Amp/Subwoofer question

Hi Im just wondering if I have an 8" sub 200 watts rms/400 max and a mono block amp running it thats 250 watts rms will I be ok with that power or will it blow my sub?

The amp says 250 watts rms a 2ohms and 14.5 volts and I dont think my 95 civic battery puts out 14.5 so Im thinking I'll be fine.... but does anyone know for sure?
Thanks

I doubt ur gonna run full power ever! I have a 1000 Watt system, and i never take it to its full potential. Power level stays at 2 or 4 out of 8, and most of my amp settings are on min.

As long as u dont put it on full you should be fine.

^ does that mean leave my amp on min(aka no bass boost), but I can still turn up the volume loud on my cd deck right.

I dont know it just says 250rms, no peak/max. random lol but its a total mobile audio t250.1 if that helps any.
I was just on canadian car audio forum reading about overpowering a sub and its ok if the gain is set right or kept to it lowest if unsure.

I think 80% of the time its twice the rms. so peak should be 500 but like I said the amp specs are 250rms @ 14.5 volts arent most cars putting out 12 volts from a stock bat.

Ive been to the website they only state the rms for the amp, so I guess Im going to have to find out first hand.

Your car will run at 12 volts when it's off, and so will your 12volt stereo system. When your car is on and charging, it runs around 14.3-5 Volts.

You're missing the OHMS for the sub, and how they are wired. Bridged, or not, 2ohm, 4, 8? You match your Sub to your amp. I don't see them being a problem, UNLESS you wire your OHMs (resistance) wrong. IE: Bridge to 2 ohms when your subs call for four ohm.

Don't judge your AMP/SUB Combo by PEAK ever. RMS (Root Means Square) are the important #'s

^^ yes but as long as he doesnt max out his amp then it will be fine. amp @rms can play sub at peak no problem. so as long as the amp does not exceed the peak pwr of the sub it will be fine.
ps yes you have to wire the sub for 2ohms

A rule of thumb is that peak is roughly twice the rms rating. So 250rms = approx. 500 peak.

It will be fine, you won't blow your sub.

if it's dual voice coil, @ 2 ohms, that makes it 1 ohm.
or dual voice coil (DVC) @ 4 ohms, makes it 2 Ohm.

Single Voice Coil (SVC) @ 4ohm is 4 ohms. etc.

Depends if it's wired in series or parallel. What you're describing is a sub wired parallel. To the OP, check resistance with an OHM meter before you connect the sub to the amp.

Or look at the manual, and follow the diagrams.
