Amp Qiuestion

I just got 2 10" 400 watt Clarion subs.
Seen here

Will a 400 watt amp be sufficient to power these? What do you reccommend?

They say 400 watt MAX music power, so im guessing the RMS on them is around 200 or so.

So if you bought a 400 watt RMS amp then yes that should be good.

Thanks for the reply.

Now one other question...is it necessary to have an inline fuse from the battery to the amp? Will the amp's own fuse be fine?
One of my friends say I should the other says the amp fuse is there for that purpose...

Put the fuse in. For the small price it is it gives you alot more protection.

YES IT IS NECCESARY!!
think about this scenario - you get into an accident, and the wire is pinched cut into the body. therefore your battery is shorted. what do shorted batteries do? EXPLODE! save yourself the bill for the replacement battery and anything that's damaged, and spend the 15$ for the inline fuse at the battery.

If I was in an accident my battery would be my last concern. I know what you're saying though. I'll pick one up today.

It can be puit anywhere on the cable from the battery right? I think it will be easier to put in in the trunk before the amp...is that fine? Or does it matter where on the line it goes?

The fuse that is between the bat. and amp is there to protect the wire. If you get into an accident, and the wire gets crimped, there would be large amounts of current running through that wire. with out a fuse, say by, by, to your car. Wire would heat up really quickly and melt...a fire can start. If there is a fuse there, the fuse would blow, therefore saving the wire/car.
Put the fuse as close to the battery as possible.
Take the total of all the fuses on the amps...add them up, and use a fuse at the bat. that is 5-10A larger (rough addition) I don't have my trusty callculator to actualy give you the exact value.....current draw...bat. voltage...wire size....)The fuse on the amp is for the AMP and not the WIRE. Keep it within 16-18" of the battery. If the total is more that 60A, and the distance from bat. to amp is 15' or longer, make sure you have a 4 gauge or larger.
And remember to upgrade all you ground wires to the same size as well. If you have the cash, run a ground as well as a power, from the battery to the amp.
