Alpine Deck - '93 Civic DX

I just got an older Alpine cd deck, its the CDE-7822. Yeah. crap I know, but it was free. I get the bracket and everything into my car, which had a kenwood tape deck put into it before I bought it. Well, it turns out the dumb *** who had the car before cut off the honda wire heading thing, and just stuck on a kenwood one which has completly different wire colors. So we get out there today to install this new cd deck. We cut off the kenwood wire head and then matched all the wires according to color with the new alpine wire head. And we matched them up in the manual for the kenwood as well as the Alpine manual. Now the Alpine was working in the previous car it was in (not mine, nor did I see or install/remove it). So once we got all the wires in the correct (as far as we thought) places, we turn the car on and hit power. Nothing, no power to the deck at all. Didn't feel much coming through the cables either. Any ideas? Or what else would help.. a guide to what honda wiring colours mean and what they are.. im getting a headache over this.

Use the guide from http://www.installdr.com/
I followed it to install on a 93 si and all wires matched exactly as listed.

Ok.. Since then I have had a short circuit, blown a fuse and got a new deck. Now I have a Pioneer DEH-1400.. Same damn problem. I'll take a pic of the wiring sitution, the previous owner left it a wreck. But on the switched ignition wire there appears to be a resistor, this is not stock It was on there for the kenwood tape deck that was put in as it was attached to the kenwood wire heading. Does this have to be removed? Because all of the wires are in their right places, im not a f*n idiot.

if all wires are in the right place you should be fine and not blowing anything...

try installing it after u disconnect the battery first.

well that wouldn't make a lot of difference, we have figured out that the line that is supposed to have 12 volts all the time is actually not getting 12 volts for some reason.
we have checked the fuses but nothing is happening on that front.

Alrighty, some more probing around and testing, The 12v constant line is no longer providing any juice at all. By using the accesory switched line from the cigarette lighter, we managed to get the deck to power on, which means the problem is not in the ground or the fuses as the deck and cigarette lighter are on the same fuse/circuit. How can I check the 12v constant wire? I have no clue where it runs and if it goes into the engine bay, where can I test it there? If it comes to it.. can I run a new lead (fused of course) straight off the battery? And how would I go about doing that?

I did check in that fuse box, altough nothing seemed to be correlated to the radio, they were all good. And if it was a blown fuse, the cigarette lighter and possibly the dome light would not work right? Well.. they do. Its just the stereo 12v constant. Where would I run a new line in from the battery? I didn't see many places to get a wire through. I was also told that there is a very powerful 12v constant in the ignition harness that I could tap off of... how do I go about finding that?

EDIT -

I did manage to get a new pioneer DEH-1400 (not brand new, 2nd hand, but perfect shape) deck. I powered it off the cigarette adapter and gave it a go. It crackles on all the bass tones!! My friend said he thought it was just the blown speakers in his olds, but it does it in my civic with Pioneer 80w (non blown) all the way around. The deck is 45w*4, its not over powering its just crackling. What could be doing this? I don't have money to take it to a pioneer repair place because its no longer under warrenty.

there is a gromet on the firewall by the battery run the line through there into the car for the constant feed, but put a fuse closest to the battery to protect the wire.

You know what.. I dont need to run a wire now. It turned out a 7.5v fuse labeled "Backup" under the hood needed replacing and I passed over that one in my previous check.

However the deck is still staticy.

Uhm.. very low 10 - 15% and up. Its something wrong with the deck. It did it in my friends car too. He thought it was blown speakers, so in my civic with new pioneer 80w, it does the same damn thing. I'm thinking I might take it to a repair center, seeing as how I got it for free, when he bought it, it cost him $250.00. They just gave it to me.

Well, that would be fine and dandy if I lived within an hour drive of toronto, But i dont, I live up north and its not worth it because I have wired up other cars before without any problems, I just couldnt find a fuse. And im sick of people telling me it is the wiring, its not; it is the deck!! I have 3 decks. A kenwood tape deck, a alpine cd deck, and a new(er) pioneer cd deck. When the kenwood and alpine are hooked up, i have no problems with sound quality, infact, its awesome. Once I hook up the pioneer, I get static in the speakers, and its at any volume basically. Something on the output is wrong.

if its the deck than dont use the pioneer, or run all new speaker wire to the speakers and just wire up the ignition, constant and ground to the deck and see if that helps at all.

Yeah, it is old. It doesn't play CD-r's hence why I also have a Pioneer DEH-1400, but it makes the speakers all staticy.
