Header for SiR

Ok, so money is a little tight, but I want to put a header on my 00 SiR b16. Only mods right now are intake, twin loop axel-back, and chipped obd1 ecu.

That being said, is a header a worthwhile investment? Even just a cheap one, like a megan? I know they are cheap, but i really haven't read anything bad about these guys to be honest.

One last question. My car is pretty low, if I go with a 4-1 like the megan header is my clearance going to change?

I have a jdm integra type-R 4-1 header on my EM1 (b16). I only paid $100 and I consider that money well spent. Ground clearance is quite good because with this header they offset the pipes underneith so they are not 'stacked' the full height of both pipes.

I also built my own custom 2.5" full exaust system, front to back, with high flow cat and mangaflow resonator to go along with it. I can honestly say, the engine responded well with this combination as well as a short-ram intake with BPi velocity stack. A little bit was lost below 3000rpm but there are definitely noticable gains above 4-4500rpm, and especially up top when vtec engages from 5600-to redline at 8200.

The stock b16 header really restricts the top end with only a puny, less than 2" inside diameter collector. The ITR 4-1 header with a 2-3/8" inside diameter collector really allows the engine to breath much better in the higher rpm range.

Just changing the header, you won't notice much of a gain, if anything. In order to make full use of the benefits of a header, you need to upgrade the entire exhaust system to at least 2-3/8" or 2-1/2" diameter, front to back.

Just curious, why are you running a chipped OB1 ecu if your engine is still pretty much stock? I'm still running the stock b16 ecu and it runs quite strong with the mods I have.

Just a guess but the car might not have always been an SiR?

OP-> I would follow mike lead here if you insist on getting a header on the cheap. Other then a used OEM one, you might get lucky and find a good used after market one, but new and cheap are never a good combo when it comes to exhaust. Manifolds in particular, you just gonna crack it or have clearance issues. Used you'll likely only find dented ones anyway. Find an ITR one or wait till you can afford a good new one and don;t waste coin on a cheap one that'll rot out or crack before you can afford to get the good one you should have in the first place.

Also most cars with cheap anything exhaust side, are the ones that make that raspy fart can noise the domestic guys love so much to hate on us for. Headers and resonators are the main culprits here but it applies to the whole thing really.

Forgot to add, after I bought the ITR header, I re-welded all the primaries to the flange on the OUTside and ground down (ported) the factory welds on the INside of the flange. The factory welds on the ITR header protrude quite a bit into the exhaust flow and causes some turbulence/restriction, especially in the top end. I did some research and many people concluded that porting this header is worth the time (took me 45mins per port) and effort for the gains in flow at the top end.

MPR, your car in your sig looks awsome. Thats what the car is for, driving. I got tired of looking every tuned civic slammed to the ground. It actually hurts the performances for being too low (well you do autox so you know )

Got any vids of that civic driving in this weather?

btw are you also a member of OC MR2 club? (Kbox forum?)
