01 si automatic...full 4inch piping?
hi guys... i have a 01 civic si coupe...
its an automatic...and well i dont know i just feel its not that fast as it should...
someone told me about the full piping for the exhaust that are 4inches.
i know if i take the Cat converter out, it wont pass my emissions but if i put in a aftermarket hi flow cat it should be good.
is that true? i think the cost would be around 400- 500 right?
is it a good idea ? full 4inch piping? its just that im stuck with an automatic...
dont tell me to sell it..lol, i know but its not worth it, i just ended up spending a little too much in it, now its too big of a loss to sell it...plus its working good now..
so if u can help me out...
thanks

DO NOT DO THIS
4 inch exhaust is way way way way [cannot stress this enough] too big.
Its a stock motor, the best size is what is on it right now. N/A engines need back pressure [not too much] to operate properly and achieve maximum power. 2.25" exhaust [i believe that is what you have] is designed to work on your car. by making exhaust piping larger you do achieve slightly more power on the top end, but you loose out down low. Since you have automatic, you do not push to high rpm since it shifts on you well before rev limit.
you can replace the exhaust for sound but not much else really.
Something that would add a little bit of a kick is a header. Better flowing header will improve your acceleration, though do NOT expect to feel it much.
TBH, its automagic, keep it the way it is, performance mods in an automatic car do not go well together. But that's just my opinion.

yea i pretty much thought of it the same way...but i dont know i spent alot of money and the power in it doesnt seem to be too much...
automatic i dont know got it like that and just stuck to it...
i know people say turbo and this nd that,...its too expensive so i thought of doing the 4inch piping...
anyother ways to make it somewhat faster...headers yea, the ones on it, when i took off the shield...were tinyyy...lol
i didnt think theyd be soo small

its header [single]
turbo is quite pricey but there are few things about that:
A: best bang for the buck. you spend quite the money on little mods and still dont go anywhere, but with turbo, you shell out a lot on shot but the power difference is like night and day.
B: With automatic, i would not recommend turbo, you will have many transmission problems.
C: You get the cool Waaaaa-pshhh sound :P

lol...yea i know...nd NO WAY i have money to spend into turbo for my automatic...its just not worth it...
i guess it'll stay stock lol...just going to grab a air intake and yea...
so downpiping doesnt give any additional power?

^^ bad luck with cops?
had vibrant twin tip muffler, no cat...really loud for over half a year never had a problem. then got a huge fart can on my old car, loud.....no problems. now have 5zigen with exhaust which is absurdly big [got it for jokes, don't take me as a ricer lol] haven't had any problems yet.

Martin hit the nail on the head. 4" exhaust on an auto d series will make it slower. Especially through low-mid range rpms...which is where it runs most of the time.
There really isn't much you can do to improve performance on that car, other then turbo or sc, but like Martin said, the auto trans can't handle that kind of power. Most basic bolt-ons, like a header/intake/exhaust, will only help with more of the mid to top-end efficiency which you will only barely notice when the car is floored and in the higher rpm range. And when I say barely notice, I mean your brain will make it feel faster because it will sound faster...lol.
When it comes to loud exhaust, as long as you don't drive like an idiot, the cops should leave you alone.

Umm serious power in 2010 is turbo + meth
No. Do some driving around 12am to 430am with that stealthy flat black vibrant de-catted sunday to thursday in sauga/brampton granny shifting. Pick any of the clean hondas that made it into importfest. Your going to need a worldsport2.

i tend to drive around all around GTA till 3-4am, never had a problem.
Also, robbie_R(eg6), i would not doubt that you feel slightly quicker with a high flow cat, but from your pic i am guessing you have a b16, which likes and actually needs high revs. As i mentioned above, higher/better flowing exhaust benefits at higher rpm, though some back pressure helps the down low torque.
Also, nitrous is a quick and cheap way to get power, but having to refill and the stress and wear that it does on the engine is not worth it imo.

guys i tend to stay away from contributing to engine talk since i'm so new but i also drive an auto and i'm curious as well... wouldn't an s/c work well for increased power? it's belt driven so it doesn't need to spool, as well because it's belt driven the power is there from low rpms so you get way more power a lot sooner... the only downfalls i see are parasitic loss and basically halving your engine life

just an fyi, i was paying attention today on the drive in, it shifts at exactly 3500 without fail. i have to slam my foot down to get to vtec range and it shifts after like 3 seconds, gets back down to 3500 then up until vtec, then shifts again.
just thought i'd post this to help anybody who might need this info...
