y8 manifold on y7

I'm looking to install a y8 intake manifold on a y7 engine. Are there any problems with the swap? Will it bolt up without throttle cable binding? I checked past threads and they go nowhere. I'm looking for better clearance for both a short ram intake and strut bar.
Any help is very much appreciated.
Thx.

If you just worry about the short ram hitting the strut bar, just saw off an inch off of the base and problem solved.

would you mind telling me where did you have it done and how much it cost you?

turbo is not installed. yeah... those are the parts you'll need... you don't NEED the throttle body, but it makes life easier. Oh... and a throttle cable bracket would be nice to have too, and make sure you have a new IM gasket!! I got mine from Parkway Honda.
Pics... ummm I have some but the are not uploaded all yet... here is one

i just want to pick up everything b4 i head down to my mechanic.

thanks for the help

Do you have any pics for the swap?

You also have a turbo too rite!!

bbarbulo wrote on February 4th, 2005 04:38 AM:

yeah I did it. do you already have a manifold or are you looking to buy?

you need the IM, throttle body, IM rear bracket, throttle cable bracket, fuel return line and fuel press reg... also about 5 feet of hose (forget the size) and another 2 feet of vacuum hose. And you'll have to extend some wires, cuz the wiring wont reach in some spots. This is not for the novice mechanic.

Did you upgrade your Y7 manifold into Y8?

What does it need to do the upgrade other then the Y8 manifold?

thanks for the help

Here's a Y7 manifold, courtesy of bbabulo (from another thread)

Notice how the throttle body is aimed vertically. This creates issues with intakes clearing underneath a strut bar because they have to sit higher in order to bend and aim downwards to meet the throttle body.

yeah it does look ghay...

the other ghay thing about it is... the air plenum is BEFORE the throttle body!! the air/filter box acts as the plenum, so when you remove it to put an intake on... you LOSE power. And you can't put a strut tower bar on (at least not the beautiful OEM SiR peice)

Thanks for in the info... going on the parts hunt now. As you mentioned, it's mainly to clear the strut bar, but when the short ram is on the y8 manifold, will the performance gain be noticable?

the Y8 is a MASSIVE improvement over the Y7 mani... short ram, cold air, or stock Si box.. makes no difference, the improvement is incredible!!!

Do you recall exactly where the wiring runs short?
The rest sounds simple enough with a shop manual in hand... but I'm just trying to gauge how labour intensive this is going to be, or if it's worth calling Rick at RT.

how about dyno figures directly comparing a d16y7 versus a d16y8?

I think the graphs would almost superimpose until VTEC range where the y8 would continue to climb while y7 plateaus.

Assuming this, I fail to understand the 'big' gains obtained with a simple y7-->y8 manifold swap.

Prove me wrong and I too will invest in the swap.

Dyno numbers prove all.

quite frankly I don't care whether you invest in the swap... I mean... what would I get out of the trouble of swapping back, then dyno testing, then swapping again and dyno testing????

you obviously know nothing of intake manifold design

Who asked you? I'm looking for some help with this mod and you chime in with this dyno nonsense crap.
Anyone who can offer any real advice, please do.

simmer for a second.

My comments were not to be inflammatory. I thought this board was more open minded and about answers rather than opinion.

yeah, the MAP sensor part of it....like that whole one bundle of wires. you kinda gotta be creative with it... just unloom the stock wires back and play around with routing them diff't ways. once you are happy, just tape it back up and you're set. it's not easy but.... wothwhile.

civicex, sorry... you just came with this attitude like prove it to me like I'm selling you something. I was merely offering my experience with the swap. as for your question, the plenum and runner design on the Y8 is far superior to the Y7 and it offers clearance for the OEM strut tower bar. so how could I refuse such a swap!!
