what is the benefit of shaping the combustion chambers like he did?
Is that simply to obtain the desired combustion chamber volume or does it help promote a better burn?

ahhh. on pr3 heads there is that .085" recessthat is the same size as the bore. to get a .048 piston to head you have to cut the head .070 which screws up the timing etc. welding it up makes it easier to attain the quench you want with out cutting a whack of the head and block. yes it helps promote at better burn. andrew you should read his artical section on porting and combustion chamber design.

i've read it like 5 times now.
I've also read this article a few times.
There are so many questions i have regarding the info on his site.
I'm getting discouraged from building the 2.0L and tempted to build my 1.8L w/ITR slugs to help keep costs down. I mean forged internals aren't extremely necessary for my power goals IMO and way too expensive to be practical.
