i dont understand why everyone thinks just because a ZC is an older engine its abused ...

well first off...it doesnt matter how old an engine is, do a compression check and leakdown test, that will tell you how the motor lived its life in japan..

second, the b16a came out during the same years as the zc so why doesnt anyone say they are old and beat on?

if I lived in japan, I would be beating the crap out of a sIR before i got to the zc.

ok thanks for all the info guys but i have another question, would a d16y8 be hard to swap into my motor because like shlammed said i would have to use a si tranny so what other parts would i have to get in order to make the swap successfull?

no its just more wiring

its basically bolt onto a 4th gen or ZC tranny. Then drop int he car, wire it all up etc.

137/108 tq

to 119/105 tq in the DOHC

as for the SOHC i cant find much info

Take into account parts as well. If you buy older and JDM its hard because you cant just walk into Honda and say I need a Tbelt for my ZC engine cause they will look at you like wtf??

As for Y8 being better than the ZC, its debateable. The specs on the motor are pretty close and depending on what ZC you get the HP and torque figures are pretty damn close

haha the y8 has no wear near 137 hp...try 125 if that and no bottom and mid range...the dohc zc has 130 and a way better power band...the sohc zc has been said to have 114 hp and will drop write in...the y8 mtoor will be pointlessly hard to wire in...grab that dudes sohc zc for 500 bux cause it some with everythign to convert your dpi plus a si tranny.... well worth it forget sohc vtec motors they are crap and harder to ire in thus mroe money to swap in...for 500 bux you can get acomplete swap...jump on it

The 137hp is one of the better versions of the ZC out there, thats why I posted a couple diff configs of them. You are not certain unless you know 100% what car the ZC came out from, even then it could be a lie, and your stuck with the 119 hp version.

Regarding the Y8, sure it might be more work but to someone who knows what there doing and can wire no problem its not the end of the world.

all first gen black top zc's had 125 hp...second gen were said to have 135 but I feel that that probobly is a lie but what every..unless you get a sohc zc or a brown top you will have atleast 125 hp and a good power band...114 of the sohc will be pepy in a dx hatch plus for 500 bux he gets' everything like the resistor box..harness tranny clutch..everythig that adds up teh cost if bought elsewhere...

I believe you but I don't think punk know's how to drive if that's the case unless your ZC was modded and his b16 was stock. Think about it, same weight, 160hp to 115hp or whatever...doesn't make sense.
