whats wrong with my poor civic?
in lower RPM's the car stared to jerk slightly i dont notice it in higher RPM's but im just wondering what could be wrong.. its like
... smooth ... smooth jerk.. smooth... smooth ... jerk.. jerk.. its really weird anyway im not an engein man so i have no idea whats going on.. any ideas ? thanx in advance... |
oh its a 97 civic EX 4 dr.. its nice and was running sweet but this just started a week ago.. its not a heavy jerking motion .. just light but i can feeling and its scaring me .. i dont want to spend big $$$ on that when i just started pimping it up :)
anyway sorry for the dooble post . |
stop bogging it down...giv're a tune up...then report back
|
what do ya mean bogging it down, as for a tune up .. plugs / wires and oil change .. what else ?
|
sure...I'd jsut do plugs..cap rotor wires oil...if done yoruself shoudl cost less than 60-70 bux
|
$60-70? Obviously not using honda parts. Spark plug wires alone cost like $100, then the cap and rotor, there's another $40. But spark plugs and oil i would just get from Crappy Tire or Fartsource.
|
meh I'd jsut get delco stuff...cheap and it works
|
$60-70, that's ridiculously low
I'm ashamed to say that I didn't use original honda parts either, but Accel 8mm wires ($75), g power spark plugs ($18 for all 4), cap &rotor ($35) and changing your fuel filter wouldn't hurt either $30 ish from CT. |
thanx guys this all great information.!!!
ok so cap / roter plugs / oil / fuel filter. will that about cover it ? |
sounds like its the spark plugs,
check them to see if they need replacement and if so, replace them with something good, dont go the cheap route b/c then ur just going to have to replace them that much sooner |
the cheap spark plugs are what our honda's like.

Cheap plug's are good. Just dont' get platinum. Platinum's are garbage. Not very powerfull and Rough on Startup. People jsut use them because they last forever. OEM choice because of longevity. Irridium's are pricey as well. Can't go wrong with Copper.
|
You cant loose with oem NGK's
|
ok im going now to check the plugs and wires and cap. ill report back when im done .. and hey !!!
thans again for all the advice, i love this car so i want to take good care of it.. but im still waiting for an explaition on "Bogging" anyone ? |

ok so.. me and the father did a inspect on the car and appearently im just not driving it right..
we check the plugs and of corse ... their platlume.. but i guess i will spring for some NKG since that what ya all are saying is good for my baby :) .. anyway.. turns out im just not driving it right... as far as my dad says .. 2100 RPM in second gear at 30 Km/h is too low .. im trying to baby the car and im just hurting her. :( .. so i was told by him that 3000 RPM is a nice cruzing RPM for that car.. and as far as "Bogging" he also told me its called "lugging" in the trucking indestry and it basicly means that the gas in the cylender is not completly burning... and this casuses a surge of powr when one cylender accualy dose fire proply and then backs off ... .. does anyone have any thing else to add .. or does anyone disagree with anything here .. i just want to make sure im doing the right thing for my civic.. i absolutly love this car and would like to keep it for a long time to come. thanks for all the advince |
3000RPM? u should be shifting at 6500 in every gear!!!!!!!!!!
......lol.....j/k........when u shift at 3000 is the problem gone? |
KOOL!!!!!..i never knew that!!
|
after 3000 RPM the problem disapeers.. so im not sure if its my dad being right all i knwo is that i niticed the problem early this week and i dont liek it .. it could be a sign of something going wrong .. but what ?
|
sound like plug arcing
run the motor in the dark and spray the wires with water, if it boggs replace em. |
