what? Premium gas?

My owners manual shows that my 90 CRX Si (canada model) needs 91 octane. Its just a d16A6, not a b16. Im assuming that 87 wont kill my car, right? Can someone help me out?

man, what are you complaining for??? 91 octane is $0.10 more a litre. Which is like $4 more a tank compared to 87 octane.

it can buy you a slice of pizza, but not a 3.99 combo hahahaa

at most you can afford is something 3.48 + tax

but its funny how some people nowadays would add 50 cents to 1 dollar to upsize a meal, but they would mind about $4 dollar difference in premium gas.....

btw, just go with 87... those d16a6 engines are cheap anyways haha

i felt the difference once i switched to 91 from 87 on my d16z6. it isn't that much more at all so i don't mind paying the extra $$ for the extra performance.

You will be good with 87 im sure since you have a D16. Its $4 per tank full but can be $200 in a full year provided you fill up your tank every week.

$4 / week, $200/ year... once you zoom that number upto $200, it makes the gas seem expensive.... now if we zoom this to 40 years... you've lose $8000!!! a retirement vacation! HAHAHAHA

or you could use the cheap gas, blow your engine and have to spend $500 on a new one. So does that $200 a year sound so bad?
$200 devided by 365 days in a year is only $0.55 a day more that you would spend on premium gas.
How about cigarettes, $9 a pack, a pack a day, thats $63 a week or $252 a month just to kill yourself a little bit. Or $3276 a year.
Beer maybe? $35 a case, a case a week thats $140 a month just to have a few beers everyday.
Now imagine what you would spend on beer and smokes over 40 years.
Life is filled with expenses, get used to it. You gotta pay to play.

haha zeeman, you got my point...
so $4 more isn't bad at all, because i'm sure each of us somehow waste money on something else once everywhile... for example, when i drive to school... i pay $4.50 for 3 hours, then i realize the lecture was just 2 hours, and i feel like "**** i wasted $1.50", then there also times i was being cheap-*** to save that $1 or so, then i got a parking ticket for $30... so more or less in our daily live, we would somehow waste our money on little things without noticing...

indeed, 60 cents a day won't do you much, why not feed the engine well =)

Andrew...i cant agree with you more on the expense part but i dont agree that using 87 will kill your engine. I mean....how many engines blow by using the 87 as opposed to the higher grade....

i think that was the question...will it kill or not and i dont think so. But on second thought....yeah...we waste enough money on sh*t like smokes and beer....why not put better gas....

well 91 octane has a higher threashold for detonation than 87 octane, and if honda recommends using 91 there must be a reason. Such as, using agressive ignition timing. And if you use cheap gas on an engine with agressive timing you take the risk of detonating. And detonation kills engines, thats a fact.

bottom line. you don't need 91 octane for a crapass d16 engine. it may run better, but it will not pull any harder because it is slow. save yourself the 4 dollars a week. that is 2 beers. or 1 at the bar. maybe even 4 beers if you are in guelph on mondays.

I think you guys are a little bit off track in the get go regarding the topic with gas. So, I'm gonna give you guys my 2 cent. Have any of you ever watched that episode of the Simpsons where Homer went on that Duff Beer tour and he was observing the funneling of the premium, the regular, and the lite beer all came from the same source? Well, that goes the same for gas!
