so i was watching tv last night and there was a show on A&E about street racing toronto, and there was a guy on it named Mike P. with this done to the **** little hatchback....so now this mike wants a turbo....just wondering if anything can give me a hand with what i need to make it happen. i have a 97 civic lx 1.6L D15Y7.

just because you saw some show on a boosted hatch doesn't mean its easy to accomplish.

If I had a nickel for everytime somebody had told me they want to boost their D I'd have enough money to finish my build

boosting a d series sounds easy but it is very tricky if u are making a home made build, u need to find the right parts that will work with different parts, if u r on a budget u have to spend your money wisely because the more boost u throw at the engine, the more u have to strengthen it.

pick up a greddy kit and a y8 manifold... ur looking at 2500-3000 all said and done... with you doing the install.

Follow chris si98's suggestions and do your homework. There's tons of info on thoses sites regarding turbo buildups. If you are serious about putting togeather a turbo d pm me and I can help you out.

personally I think turbo a D series engine is not smart, getting a decent b16 engine with a bunch of basic engine mods for close to the same price as the turbo kit, and the d series would still lose in a race most of the time

i disagree. a turbo d16 will smoke a basic b16 with i/h/e all day long. sorry but imo b16s are a waste of money. why spend the money on a b16 swap when you can get a b18b with a shorter gear ratio tranny that will be faster than a stock b16 for roughly the same price? if it's a dd i'd rather get an ls motor than a b16. it will be more fun to drive around town because you won't have to contantly rip on it to get some power. if thats not enough, save up a grand more and get the b18c. the turbo d16 will have way more torque and more hp depending on how much you're boosting. if you do things properly the first time, like don't cheap out on engine management, the motor will last you quite a while.

ok leitner you go think that. i tend to believe what i see. i never said stock for stock the LS motor will be faster. i've personally seen my friend get spanked by a b18b hatch with a b16 tranny. my friend drives a eg with a b16a2 in it STOCK. could it be the driver? possibly but my whole point was that b16s are a waste of money. i can give you more stories but then it's just my word against your almighty knowledge right? so let's not waste our time debating which motor is faster.

anyways, lets stay on topic shall we? this guy wants turbo, spending 2gs on a b16 swap and then turboing it is not even worth it. i recommend that if he wanted to go b then go with a b18b. much cheaper block so when you blow it you don't have to fork out another 1200 bucks for another vtec block.

my b16 kills my buddys b18b, stock vs stock, we race from the dig, he gets a half car on my ride, then v-tec hits, ill i remeber is him in my rear view. i did my research, i love my b16, once i boost it, i love it that much more!!!!

a lot more goes into the race than the power a motor produces..

saying you beat your buddy in an illegal street race doesn't prove anything.

I've never looked into the actual numbers but through all my honda-teching it was my understanding that a B16 tranny has the sort gearing while the LS motor has the longer gearing. I've driven both types and thats how it felt too.

I wanted to turbo my car (D series) for a while then completely decided against it. It's god damn expensive to do and is really unpredictable for reliability. Very fun, lots of up keep. I'm going the swap route myself, but i take reliability>speed

unpredicatable reliability? it's all in the tuning. do it the right way and it will last you for a long time. as long as you don't constantly beat the crap out of it and neglect it. b16 trannys are the shortest of the b series. LS is the longest.

yes unpredictable. Everyone says they did it the right way until their engine starts buring oil..I've seen 3 people with turbos "done the right way" go straight down the crapper.

turbo d's are reliable even with a homemade kit. I know a guy that dailyed his for ages. it was fiune. the motor had like 300000kms on it.
