VIBRANT HEADER input
i was wondering if anyone knows much about the J-spec Vibrant header and the quality in it????
they have the 4-1 and the 4-2-1 for the b-series motors.
the construction looks sweet.
but anyone have input and NOOOOOOOOOOO i am not a seller or anything....

Vibrant makes great quality stuff, I know some mechanics that swear by some of their performance parts. The header in particular are really nice, I would say that they are right up there with DC in terms of build quality but don't have the recognition that DC has. The J-Spec B16 header is actually based on the JUN header.

vibrant and ractive are practically the same stuff...my old work was a distributor of both and the only difference in most cases was the name on it
and like ractive and other cheaper companies, some stuf is good and some is crap...I have the Ractive 4-2-1 header and its a pretty solid unit and for 100bucks I paid for it I aint gonna complain
I have never heard of anybody swearing by vibrant not to mention comparing it to DC...then again pipes are pipes and some pipes cost more than others
and like ractive and other cheaper companies, some stuf is good and some is crap...I have the Ractive 4-2-1 header and its a pretty solid unit and for 100bucks I paid for it I aint gonna complain

Here comes a newbie question...
Isn't a header a fairly low tech device in the first place? I mean most of the engineering goes into the flow characterisits and flange design before it's actually made. Once it's made and marketed though, aside from maybe chroming or heat treating, aren't they all pretty much the same?
Like if someone was to clone the bends on a DC header and come out with a cheap alternative, wouldn't that be just as good?
Not like say, a spark plug or fuel pump where variance and material cost can affect quality. here we're just talkin' pipes.

p.s i dont think i would level out the RACTIVE and VIBRANT as for header wise the same...... i have seent the construction on the RACTIVE header....... and well performance wise.... wasnt there, on my buddies Neon.... it cracked, so instead he opted for the AFX long tube which was way better!

thats my taking on it...pipes are pipes...and in a performance header the main thing is equal length piping for each cylinder for best scanevnging is it not? and if some company copies the design of another and all pipes are the same length and size then aint it the same?
sure I gueess material (stainless, mild steel, ceramic coated) will have a small but perhaps negligable effect on the different ones...in most cases I go by price point and "status" point...I dont care if i'm "mad jdm y0!" or not, if I get the results I want from something cheaper then I'm happy (more $ to spend elsewhere!)
like I said vibrant, ractive, dc and every other brand on the product makes cheap crap and good crap, you just gotta sort through it...like vibrant cone filters are cheaper than the ractive ones (like half price)...then I had a vibrant exhaust and that thing was top notch quality stainless steel
so I'd 90% of the time buy the cheaper simple design item rather than the expenive one (aem vs ebay cai)...its s goddamn pipe with a bend or 2...not rocket science!
if its cheaper and makes you happy then go for it

I just came back from a store where the guy said DC headers will cost between $450 and $550! Wtf? Is that a typical price?
The mid and rear ractive sections combined are at $1100.
That's a $1650 exhaust system for a freakin' 105hp car. What will I gain, 5-10hp?
Add whatever the muffler shop charges to weld the dang thing...

They're $209 and they're actually made out of JIS 3445-STKM 11A standard aluminized steel. Not your ordinary steel. They are cold rolled steel dipped in a aluminum silicon alloy.

Id take one over a DC, some may not agree but iv concluded that its probably the best headder for the money. If its good enough the endyn guys... altho they use it for supercharged applications...

Yeah you'll be surprised how many people agree with that.
I guess it's always going back to that price/performance curve and finding the best "value" without getting broke or buying crap.
I think DC prices are overkill from some of the reseach I've done, and from what we discussed earlier, it's all pipes anyway. If you can save 40% off and get the next best thing and lose say 5% flow (if that much), then isn't it all worth it for 99% of the population?
