The kit says complete....but is there a parts list? I cant tell from the pic if fuel management is there...2 1/4 piping should be fine if you are only looking to boost a mild to run boost number.

The edelbrock kit is nice. Ball bearing turbos are amazing. The intake manifold is big bonus, and it comes with everyhing but a fuel pump, even all the gaskets! What I dont like is the internal wastegate.

What I like about the other kit is the manifold is better. Also, the turbo housing is made for an external wastegate. There is less chance of problems with this. But, it doesnt really come with everything... actually its a little pricey for a just turbo, manifold, and down pipe...your not getting too much for that price. The fmu and sylicone hoses are nothing...(200 used if that)

IMo, Buy a use kit off someone. If thats not your your slice of pie, go for the edelbrock.

That dyno at Edlebrock's site worries me about that kit. You get 176 whp but look where they cut the dyno info. It looks like it redlines at 80+ mph so it must be 3rd gear. The line cuts off at 30 mph (50km/h) so that it doesn't show the lag that happens at <2500 rpm. I hope you don't live downtown because a car with that kit would be a pig in stop and go. Sounds like it would be fun as hell when you opened it up though, 176 whp is a lot. At 3500 US for the kit you would be much better with an engine swap. A tuned GSR or a stock Type R engine could make that power and you would have a better low end than stock instead of a car that bogs all the time.

there is no end to this debate... turbo - s/c - or swap. It depends on your individual preferences/situation.

Lag UNDER 2500rpm... are you on drugs? Everyone in their right mind would WANT their car to behave like stock under 2500 rpm. Boost really should start to build 3000 and up, certainly not any less.

yeah it sounds good... check out www.turbod16.com there is a mod there with the install they featured in superstreet. they will have some pointers. but you will want a boost controller to make some more power d16's can take like 9psi

cruise at a fuel efficent 2K rpm and then when you need the power it'll start up at 3000

ABout a boost controller.

You can make a boost controller for 10 bux. I did for my DSM and it worked fine.

Am I on drugs? Probably, but at least I still have my reading comprehension.

I'm not talking about building power below 2500. I'm talking about kicking around in downtown traffic having to drive at less than 10 km/h where a civic is already struggling at low rpm and then making it worse by adding turbo lag. The car would become very annoying to drive. I don't know about Santa Paula but most cities in California have very heavy traffic so it would probably come up a lot.

obvioulsy you have never driven a turbo car...the lag doens't bring down your car and make it undrivable below that....it jsut gets more interesting after 200-2500...what do you expect from a 1.6 4 cylinder....massive low end grunt at 1500 rpm's....the turbo will actually strenghten the low end torque.....after 2000-2500 ofcourse...and why do you need hp when your jsut chugging along.....trust me it makes sense....

Wow. It's getting really hard to make this point...

Get into your civic. Drive at 10 km/h (You are on Queen St. at 8:50am). Now try and accelerate without using the clutch( Theres a lane to pass the streetcar) . Sucks doesn't it? Now rob some more power from the engine by having to spin a turbine while you accelerate. Sucks more. Yes the car is going to be quicker overall with a turbo but its going to be annoying if you get caught in traffic. Which somebody in California, like our original poster, might have to worry about on a daily basis. That was my only point. I would be pissed off if I dropped 5 grand on something that annoyed me multiple times on my way to and from work every day.

I can guarantee you that a turbo won't annoy him in that respect. Only problem I can possibly see IS in fact just keeping things cool under the hood. It would be good to have a big Kyoto or Fluidyne radiator and a FAL fan for the heavy traffic situations.

Also, being an EX (I ASSUME 5 SPD), well, that's like an Si here, which means his EX has a closer ratio tranny, which means he'll be higher in the RPM than a comprable car with a DX tranny.

I suppose it depends on your tolerance for that sort of thing. My Si annoys me with its bogginess at low rpm without any additional help.

you need to DRIVE turbo to APPRECIATE turbo - take a SRT4 for a test drive and see how you like that or even a 1.8T Golf in stick... you'll be singing a diff't tune

I donno why everyone is complaining about the 1.6L having no low end? I find it to be a little underpower but its fine in everyday driving?? I just make sure im in the right gear, even going 10km/h in first and you stomp on it I find it has some good pickup, no wheel spinning head snapping torque but its definately not a snail either.
