why would u wanna build up a d15 go with a d16z6 or y8 and if u build the block the head needs to be matched up somehow with springs cams and a port job thats to maximize your boost and flow throughout the head

Originally posted by brianmcgaugh setting boost goals is just asinine. I see quite a few people on here say the same ****. Do you even understand what boost is? to make it easy its a restriction value, or the INability for the motor to move the air from intake to exhaust. your raming air into the motor and it cant move it out fast enough. If you can move more air and run a lower psi your laughing. That is why 2 setups can make completly diff #'s per/lb or any random boost level. stock head/cams/cam timing vs a built head will gain double digits in hp/tq no problem and run a lower psi level and be easier on the entire setup. SO NO MORE BOOST GOALS!!! plain and simple its stupid set hp/tq goals and people will be able to help |
the reason im gonna build the d15 is because i already have one in my garage and i dont need to buy one so your saying jus slap in some cams and port the head stock internals will hold up to the boost i mean valves etc.

your power goals will dictated the turbos for your setup and thus the required boost level
|
brianmcgaugh why do you always jus talk sh!t about everyone jus answer my question or dont post at all hp/tq goal ok i wanna try to make 300whp out of a dx how many psi do you think that is
|
Its all subject to the turbo used.
Im not talking **** im trying to beat info into peoples skulls |
ok well whats a good turbo to use for my application

15-20 psi off a 15g will be a whole different ball game from 15-20psi off a gt30.
So i agree with brian that setting boost goals is dumb, when you should be setting power goals. On a stock d-series it would be pushing it over 250whp....on a 15g it could take 15-20psi to reach that goal, while on a gt30 it could only take 8-10psi. So i'm sure you can see why setting boost goals is silly. When building an engine for boost you want to build the bottom end, which also is usually the first thing to let go on one of these engines, more specifically the ringlands (pistons). To recommend a turbo we'll need to know more about what you want to use this car for (street, track, autocross, etc etc)?, where you want your powerband to be?, and what is your budget? |
As a starting point, go here and read. Read until your eyes bleed
http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread/1024174 and stop arguing with the people that you are asking to be spoon fed answers from, or soon enough no one is going to help you at all. :richslap: |
like i said to him in PM a t3/t4oe stage 3 wheel .48 ar 50 or 57 trim for 300whp, 50 trim for a bit better spool. room to grow! (vs a quicker spooling t3 super 60 or the likes)
Id build the head as well (as it will be off), or at least springs/retainers/cam to increase your rev limit, but i think it can do it with out the head build, so bottom end build, head studs (must), adjust cam gear, and your basic turbo gear and fuel needs. but i dont deal with D's im a B fan, so anyone that can correct me have at it. I wouldnt ever build a D, stock LS for 300whp would be alot easier on the motor and the pocket |

Or do you want everything handed to you on a platter? Go to turbod16.com and RESEARCH |
Paolo wrote on August 9th, 2007 08:49 AM: teg_gsr, i think your not fully understanding what Brian is trying to say man. I have talked to him before, and he knows what he is talking about. When i first boosted my LS i was almost in the same boat as you, until i researched enough threads on them to come to a realization. You cant ask how much boost you need to make a certain amount of HP or TQ. The size of the turbo, the size of the charge piping, the size of the down pipe, the size of the exhaust, the tuning, all play a huge factor when it comes to HP goals not, boost level. I have a Boosted LS, and so did Brian, and he made more power then me on a lower boost level. So its not all about the boost level. It may take you 20psi to hit your goal, and take someone else 10psi. Thats all he is trying to say. |

hey if one of the mods can move this to one of the locked turbo stickied threads that wud be sweet
