Transmission Problem
so Last night I noticed a sound when ever I shift, its really loud on first gear and only come outs when its in gear.
I took to to the mechanic today and he drove it, he said it could be the output shift bearings. Does it make sense? if so how much would it cost to fix it? |
if it is an internal bearing, i would just replace the transmission unless you find someone who will do the job for cheap. Coming from a mechanic who does side-work, I personally would charge alot for that work. I assume you have a d-series.. i say just buy a y8 tranny and get me to toss it in:D lol. No but seriously, if it is an internal bearing, i would just get a new (used) transmission. Especially if its a y7 trans

Does the noise go away when you press the clutch in, if so, then it is your output shaft bearing. To fix it, you need to remove the tranny, so thats about 1 hour to remove it, and the same putting it back. you are looking at about $300-$400 for the job with parts.

ok so i have a dx engine, and the transmission is going bad so i think i will need a new one.
what trasnmission would be good with dx engine? |
get the SI tranny, the gears are shorter, so the car will be more fun to drive.

Fix Tranny? or Swap?
Ok so I just came from Mister Transmission and appearntly my transmission is a goner, gears r coming apart. (stock dx model)
now should i swap transmission and do timing belt and water pump on engine (170 km all original) ORR swap new motor with tranny in car? which is better to do ? cheaper ? less headache? |
well....all depends upon how much money you have to spend? a tranny swap + TB/WP will be cheaper than a total engine swap...assuming you buy the engine and pay to have it installed at a proper shop...than having it done as a sidejob.
|
If your able to do the swap yourself id say do it. otherwise a proper shop will cost quiet a bit of coin.

yo i got a tranny for u if u want it..$100 or obo...y7 tranny...
if u got the cash then do the swap... |
