tranny grinds...

Hi, just looking for some options...

I have a 2000 b16a2, with an sir tranny, short shifter linkage stage 3 clutchmaster...

I am experincing trouble switching at over 4k without a grind in 3rd and 4th..3rd being the worst, it shifts normally in low rpms...I am guessing the syncro's are going, just lookin for some options before I rip the tranny apart on the weekend

thanks

Have u tried syncromesh? If the grind isnt to bad it might help.

zeeman 25-Jul-2006 02:29 PM

my guess is syncros as well....you should toss a LS 5th gear in there while its apart, you won't regret it on those long highway drives.

imported_Christof 25-Jul-2006 02:43 PM

zee, where would I go about getting one of those?

Nova_Dust 25-Jul-2006 03:00 PM

GM Synchromesh Friction Modified. It works.

where can I pick up some of that GM dealer?

and is there any sort of guide for changin the syncos? just for some back up help...I have only done it on a Z24 cav before...

I am guessin its not that much diffrent..I hope lol

How much mileage does it have? Sounds odd that the syncros are already gone on a 99-00 tranny. Maybe it has been abused?

imported_Christof 25-Jul-2006 03:17 PM

3rd gear was always a little jumpy when I got it..., 4th is recent..I like to jump on it from time to time on the weekend...but I don't beat it daily, I am pretty sure it was half in the bag when I got her :-( about 65k on the motor and tranny...

imported_fiercecivic 25-Jul-2006 03:18 PM

throw sum lucas trannmission fix, min ground in 2 and 4th and i just put that stuff in a week ago, hasnt ground since.

imported_Christof 25-Jul-2006 03:23 PM

yeaa I need to get this fixed asap...I don't want to do anymore damage..

Nova_Dust 25-Jul-2006 03:33 PM

I got mine from GM dealership on Woodbine/Hwy 7

imported_Christof 25-Jul-2006 03:44 PM

ok thanks I will go look into it tonight, or maybe the Lucus tranny fix?

which you guys think is better?

civicnation 25-Jul-2006 04:17 PM

Do the gm syncromesh friction modified. It should take care of the grind at least for a little bit. With only 65k on it, it seems odd that the syncros are already gone.

imported_Christof 25-Jul-2006 04:18 PM

yeaa maybe I just need a tranny flush....

civicnation 25-Jul-2006 04:25 PM

I think the recommended interval for a tranny flush is 40-50k so if you havent done one yet, its overdue for it.

imported_Christof 25-Jul-2006 04:27 PM

ok yeaa I should do one of those first before I rip the tranny apart

thanks for the insight guys thanks alot :-)
