For those with swaps..........

When you got your swap, did you have the motor rebuilt? I was reading on hondaswap, that all swaps should at very least have compression checked and internals looked at to see what conditon everything is in, cause you dont know how bad the engine was pushed by the owner before.

imported_SW20 MR2 29-Oct-2002 12:25 AM

Just have the shop check compression and leakdown before buying. You don't need to have it rebuilt before installation. Also, you should buy from reputable places. My cousin's supplier has an excellent track record and always provides good motors. I know some other local suppliers, some of whom sell on the local message boards, that have sold bad motors as well.

imported_sketch 29-Oct-2002 01:27 AM

how much do you know about a shop called optional performance and they're motors?

imported_Promoking 29-Oct-2002 01:42 AM

The place off Greenlane in Thornhill? They're really overpriced and unless you speak chinese they are totally rude and barely give you the time of day.

imported_sketch 29-Oct-2002 01:57 AM

Yeah well I guess thats where I have an advantage over you sean LOL ..... he did all my suspension work and my exhaust he seems to be pretty nice to me ...... but thats a lot of places ... they don't have the time of day unless they know you have money to spend.
Thats besides the point ..... he knows what he's doing but I just want to know through the "grapevine" if there has been any problems with him.

EG6_SiRII 29-Oct-2002 10:23 PM

I had problem with that Optional when I was having my old swap, gave me a GS tranny instead of SiR, use my old P28 instead of P30, didn't tune the A/F at least make sure my swap is runable, my car died on a intersect a week after the swap done because too much fuel, so many little problems and the engines sucks, now I goto my friend's shop and got my ITR swap, nice and clean

yo sorry to ***** on this thread, but EG6-SiRII do you drive a yellow 5th gen hatchback with a SiR II hood bra? :p Jus stabbing in the dark :p

oh and to remotely stick to this thread, get a compression and leakdown test before the motor is dropped in :nods: that's the best you can really do because visually you can't do much since things can be cleaned (unless something is broken within intial eye inspection)

EG6_SiRII 29-Oct-2002 10:28 PM

nope, not yellow, that's not me

imported_SW20 MR2 30-Oct-2002 01:29 AM

My cousin's shop, Defcon Racing, has done many swaps. You can call him at 905 683 1555.

I had mine done at Altech...and am happy with it.

My almost stock JDM B16 dynoed at 150whp and 106tq so I am fairly convinced I got a good motor.

sir168 30-Oct-2002 11:47 AM

Happy B16,

How much was the swap for you at Altech?

Would his name happen to be Dave by any chance?
he used to work at optional right?
if thats the guy, I'm interested as well, I've heard good things about him. can you PM me more infor about prices aswell ?

imported_SW20 MR2 30-Oct-2002 12:29 PM

Yep, that's Dave. He worked for Optional briefly and worked with Ultimate Racing/Leitner & Bush as well. Pricing will depend on what you want done. Just call Dave, and he can provide you with all of the info.

i thought it's 170HP?

you're right, but 170hp is measured at the flywheel/crank..... 150 wheel horsepower (effective horsepower laid to the ground) is a VERY good number :nods:

imported_Shaun 30-Oct-2002 08:58 PM

i'm assuming that the guy with the JDM b16 pushing 150whp has some minor mods...i doubt a stock b16 can do it.
a stock usdm b16a2 does around 135whp.
and with the jdm one being 170hp...it should put about 140 or so whp.

imported_sketch 31-Oct-2002 12:28 AM

SiR168 can you give me contact info and location of altech ?

Joe does good work. I now take my car there. he's fixed all the problems with my swap which my original shop f*@#ked up.

I would think he know's what he's doing after all I think he built the now fastest import in Canada.

sir168 31-Oct-2002 12:40 PM

say I have a EK hatchback with A/C and I want to put on B16A engine into it. Will I lose the A/C?

thanks,

sir168

imported_SW20 MR2 31-Oct-2002 02:07 PM

Nope, you will probaly just need a new A/C bracket.
