take it off??

hey i was thinking of taking my cold air intake off of my car for the winter, cuz it doesnt seem to be driving aswell with the ****in cold weather we've been having.... what do you guys think, do any of you remove it for the winter?? its not like i need performance in the winter anyways

shlammed 05-Nov-2004 07:58 PM

Well considering there will be alot of melting snow, slush, and water on the roads that you risk sucking in, I'd take it off.

imported_loudsubz 05-Nov-2004 08:10 PM

leave it

you arnt hurting anything..

hydrolocking is only if you submerge the whole filter in water and all it can suck up is water, so unless you go scuba divign your fine

yah i've seen this discussed a lot on here, i don't really see the harm in it either, like when do u actually go that deep into water? never. . . and cold air intake, what's the purpose to get some cold air....but hey if u wanna play it safe do it, cause i always play it safe with my car too. . .like it can't harm takin it off.....

Well, I'm sure AEM makes those bypass valves for a reason. And you never know...last winter i ended up going under a bridge that had like 2.5 feet of flooded water pop up out of nowhere and my car went a little crazy for a few minutes.

Keep your fender liner in place. You will be fine.

99% of people who hydrolock are the ones who slammed their cars so low that they had to remove fender liners and guess what, your air filter is exposed to air and will suck in water that much easier.

I wouldn't worry about water in winter, as they all get forzen anyway. If anything, worry about it next year when it melts.

:nods:

agreed...I've had mine on for 3 years now...not one problem.

I also clean it 3 times a year.

Gunmetalef 05-Nov-2004 11:16 PM

i'm leaving mine on... should be ok..

DumbasSi 06-Nov-2004 01:04 AM

I take mine off in the winter just because it gets so dirty with all the driving I do.

I hit a puddle that was to the top of my wheels .... no issues ....then again I had a by pass valve...

punkindrublic 06-Nov-2004 01:41 PM

i keep mine on all year

imported_zc_hatch 06-Nov-2004 02:55 PM

why would you drive through that much water anyways?
i wouldn't thats for sure, mine you im one of the guys that doesn't have a fender lining cuz my tire would rub it constantly

bbarbulo 07-Nov-2004 02:35 AM

salt dust in air filter = :tsk: I hate it when I get those salt stains on the bottom of my pants, last thing I want would be to get those on the air filter.

i think i'll be leaving mine, but thats beside the point....you said you cars been running like **** because of the cold weather...?....its a cold air intake cold air is what you want, i don't see how colder air could make your car run ****ier by way of your intake...maybe the engine asa whole doesn't like the cold air, but your intake does
