Suspension question

Okay would getting a rear sway bar be redundant after getting full coil-overs?

it depends on your needs. if you're serious about handling it's a huge bonus to slap on a nice 22mm rear bar. this is a really general question that can be easily answered if you did some searching.

Getting bigger sway bars or just adding sway bars to a car that doesn't have any is one of the best bang for buck mod's to a car you can do in terms of fun factor.
I mean, your car doesn't have to be fast to have fun in the twisties.
When i put my suspension techniques sway bars on it was a night and day difference, especially since my car never had one in the rear. But i did have to cut my exhaust and rotate it towards the wheel a little more to make room for the endlink.
Now i don't know if i would just go and toss a 22mm rear bar on there, especially if there is no front sway bar. That could make for some very odd handling characteristics.

rear sway is a great upgrade as sayjibao stated, make sure you get a subframe reinforcement kit, its required for 19+ mm rear sway bar upgrades on EK, and although EG is stronger subframe, a Beaks kit minimum would likely be a great idea. I have a Beaks kit, but i'm going to be ordering the ASR (A-Spec-Racing) brace in January so subframe tearout will never be an issue, but again EK subframe is much weaker.

I have 22mm CTR on my EL and I love it. Even with Buddy Club Racing-Spec coilovers on order, I still have and would not go without my 22mm rear sway. After trying with and without...I'll never go without it again. I actually took a fast corner and the rear tires squeeled instead of the front, it felt wicked.

It is talked about often, but a great place to look is on TCC classifieds where they can be found for $140-$170 with and without Beaks kit.

I was hesitant at first about upgrading....now i regret not upgrading faster, its a drastic improvement on fast/aggressive corners, but around town makes no difference.

Okay I have an EG and in the future I plan to get the Megan Racing Street Series Full Coilover kit.

But seems like the consenus is that the rear sway bar is a must, like I originally thought. I was always thought you NEEDED a sway bar to have the ultimate suspension package.

Can I go without needing a subframe reinforcement on my EG?

if you go withouth the reinforcement go with a 14mm integra rear sway but i hear that the del sol comes with a 15mm that will fit also. but when you start going up to 19-22mm you will need it because the civic sub frames are so thin. they won't be able to take the pressure like the type r. the best reinforcement kit out there is something like the ASR brace that acts like a tie bar as well.

btw i was planning to go with megan racing coilovers as well because my friend can get me a wicked deal on them but i think they're not rebuildable so once they blow you have to buy new ones. i don't want to blow 1000+ on coilovers that can't be rebuildable. just something i thought i'd warn you about.

ek sub frame is not that much weaker than eg sub frame. haha they are pretty thin also alwaysoverkill! and with just a 22mm rear bar is not that bad. i sat in my friends car with just a rear bar at shannonville. he has omni coilovers, toyo ra1s and a 22mm rear bar and the car handle's beautifully.

Hey SaYjAiBaO,

Just got an answer from Megan Racing. Your friend is wroing.

1st email...

Mike,

Of course. All of our products have a one-year manufacturers
warranty which include damper blow-outs. We have yet to have one blow out due to normal use to date though, but if one did occur we'd gladly send you new replacment damper to replace the damaged one, but we'll need the old one back within 15-Days.

So far we've had one, but that happened cause he got in a car
accident and nailed a curb pretty hard. That one was replaced without a hitch and that gentleman is doing fine.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to
email me and I'll try to answer anything you might have.

He goes on later to say in the 2nd email that...

Mike,

After that, I believe we only charge $75.00 per each damper. We
would never leave the customer hangin, it's just not right.

-Steve Johnson

So there you have it. Those Megan Racing Steet Series coilovers look good, real good and they are exactly the same except maybe valving differences than the Apexi coilovers

of course they will say that to get you to buy their coilover. then when it does blow up on you, you will have to go through all this trouble and prove to them that you didn't damaged them yourself. it's not out of my mind at all, i may still consider getting them.

I have a strut and sway on my front and 2 struts on the back in my hatch....and I think it really doesn't help....probaly with 1 you wouldn't notice very much....but with 4 and some hard accerleration out of corners...I notice a big diffrence

how do you have 2 strut bars on the back? did you mount them on top of each other or something? i think you mean sway bar. i took my rear strut bar off for the winter for more room and honestly i didn't notice a difference. i still have my rear sway bar and a c pillar but i don't think the c pillar bar makes a difference at all. i also have a floor bar and im thinking about ditching it. i noticed a difference but not enough for me to keep it on because of the weight and plus every passenger that sits in the back complains about it. a decent suspension setup will have the biggest gains but strut bars and sway bars will also make it better but not as much.
