Suspension bushings

Prothane vs Energy Suspension, what's the difference (material, cost, lube, etc) and which would be better for the various upgrade areas. i.e. suspension bushings, shifter bushings, transmission/engine mounts, etc.

Thanks!

energy susp black urethane bushings

IMO, prothane is too crude and underdeveloped... but function almost the same though, but prothane may squeal more

I got the ES black bushings when I was changing my shifter. As bbarbulo was saying.. they seem to have higher quality then Prothane. As far as black vs red im not quite sure on the diff between the two but ive heard that there black ones are better.

The Black energy suspension bushings are graphite impregnated to reduce squeek. The red are not graphite impregnated.

i got the rear lca, upper, lower strut mount and the black shifter stabilizer kit from energy suspension. i payed about 90 bux for the kits. the squeaking is hardly noticeable and after i had them put in i felt a big difference in my car mainly because my rear factory bushings were completely rotted out to the point where i could move my back tire in and out

black>red since urethane doesn't come red in other words black is a purer form of urethane. Furthemore, black ones have graphite that acts as a natural lubricant for the bushings, thereby giving less squeaks than red ones.

ES wins by a landslide! Now I wish I heard of them before I replaced the bushings on my old 58 Beetle...

Thanks!

I have the prothane kit on my car... Never had any problems with them. As for squeaking I found that after letting the car sit for the winter, my bushings will squeak for about two weeks then settling down. This year i put the ES shifter bushing in the beater. If noticed that the ES is no where near as stiff as the prothane one. The ES feels like what the stock should have felt like while the prothane took me weeks to get used to. Not to say that one is better then the other.
