SIR/GSR strut bar install.
Anybody know what hardware I'm gonna need to put in my OEM GSR/SIR strut bar into my 94 CX??
Thanks.. |

|
Have bar..
Have drill.. No Screws. Any particular size? |
JSK you have any input??
Thanks.. |
Buy Honda OEM screws from the dealer
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/jsp/mws/prddisplay.jsp?inputstate=5&catcgry1=Civic&catcgry 2=2000&catcgry3=2DR+SI&catcgry4=KA5MT&catcgry5=REA R+BEAM According to this, it's 8MM nuts (#7), so I guess they use studs that come up from the bottom. |
Thanks Bruno.
I don't think I have the studs from the bottom though. Car is not here. I will check when the G/F comes home. :D |
No, you won't have studs... mine just has dimples where you are supposed to drill, but apparently loudsubz' car had pre-drilled holes only covered up by little rubber grommets. While you are at it, go to a factory industrial supply place, and order stainless steel fastners in the 8mm variety.
|
ya i think u will need to drill in the holes ur self cuz when i got mine apperently honda drilled them in for me but then again mine came with the car
|
M8 or M10 will do you fine.
4 x Bolts (20 mm) 4 x Nuts 8 x Washer Use Stainless Steel if you can |
Exactly what JSK listed. That's what I used on mine.
|
Thanks guys.
Is the hardware availabe at Brafasco?? Where did you get yours?? |
I just went to CT and bought a pack of nut/bolts that were the right diamater, I think 3/8" bolt, bought some washer and I was set, no need to go all out with metric or buy the OEM stuff. its just a bolt.
|
I just picked up some fine threaded nuts and bolts from Home Depot that were M8 or stronger.
|
How do I get the bolts though the holes?
|
Yes, like the boys said you'll have rubber caps that you just pop off and you'll already have holed pre-drilled for the bar!
Bolts? Just reach though the fender well wayyyyyy up and you can put the bolts though the inside of the fender and up to the bar w/ a nut onto. If your car's dumped (2.0"+) you might not be able to get your arm inbetween the top of the tire and into the fender well, so you might have to jack up the car a bit. |
I'm offering my help if you need it Aaron. Just PM me.
|
give me a call I'll give ya a hand :D
|
Thanks guys.
I will prolly be doing it sometime this weekend. I will zap you if I run into any biggies. Thanks.. |

Originally posted by ryanhook 92-93's did. 94-95's didn't. That applies to the hatches and coupes... not too sure about the sedan. |
So i'm driiling now huh??
 |
Yes Aaron, you're going to have to drill yours.
|
OK then..
Have parts.. Have bar... Have drill.. I'm scared. Can I make a template from someones 92/93 car with holes? I don't want to screw up.. Thanks. |
i'd be scared too :) :haha: there, there.... there, there :D
It's easy, just put the bar up on the towers so it sits flush... there should be little dimples of where it's supposed to go. Take a punch, and set it in the middle where the bolt is supposed to be, and WHACK - one good hit with the hammer. Do this for all the bolts, each time checking that the bar has not moved, then remove the bar. Then drill pilot holes, and re-check the bar position again to make sure everything lines up. Then get a drill bit a hair bigger than the bolts, and drill out the rest of the metal. Now, mount your bar and to prevent rusting, just put a dab of silicone into the hole when putting the bolts in. Excess will get squeezed out, and the rest will seal the bolt head from letting water and salt into the cavity. |
Thats the thing.
I got no dimples.. I'm just wanna compare before I start f00king things up.. |
Ok then, you know where those flat areas are just to the outside of your shock tower bolts... (the two 14MM nuts)... it goes on there. Set in on there, and use a precision ruler to measure so that you have equal gaps all around and both sides are perfect mirror images. Then punch it and drill. Just some precision and patience.
|
Okie doakily.
I might as well make a faq while I'm at it then. :D |
With pictures please :)
|
aaron, ill try and take pics of mine if you want.
|
loudsubz, I was gonna ask... you know how the bar is slightly offset in it's bracket... I assume for intake plenum clearence... so the bar sits closer to the firewall or the engine?? I was looking at mine, and I think it could bolt on either way, but what is the correct way?
