SiR Exhaust Compatability
 

This is for an EK...

I know that coupes and Sedans have the same exhausts, so are the SiR exhausts compatable with the Sedans?

Is the piping the same Dia?

Will the Axle Back bolt right on to stock piping from a sedan?

Since the headers and cat are different on an SiR, does this mean that the cat-back won't bolt right up? Or is the end of the downpipe on a D16Y7 in the same location as the cat on a B16?

Is there any difference in sound when an SiR exhaust is installed on a D16 or does it just look a bit nicer?

Lee, SiR is a coupe, therefore, it bolts up.

But the exhaust manifold and catalytic converter setup is different than on my D16Y7. Also, the exhaust piping could be a different diameter and the flanges could be diferent. By "Bolt Up" I mean is it "Do it in the driveway simplicity"

Is every component of the exhaust from and SiR compatible with an EK Sedan? Is the midpipe interchangable? Is the axleback interchangable?

I want to do this myself and not have to go to a shop for anything minor that might need to be modified.

Muffler can be done, even if the pipe diameter is different, because the flanges are the same. Just like my muffler mated with factory B-pipe.

For your B-pipe, I am gonna take a wild guess and go with yes. After the cat, I think it is all the same.

I take you have an SiR exhaust on your hatch? Any dif in noise?

um I'm not clear on this issue as well.

I think that SOHC downpipes don't mate to SiR or Type R B pipe cat. something about EK's being 2 bolt flanges and SiR and Type R cat's being 3 bolt flanges.So with respect to the catback I don't think so.

The SiR muffler will bolt up to Si midpiping I know that much. I think that SiR midpipe also bolts up to the stock cat too. And the SiR muffler will bolt to any combination Si or DX I believe.

Goldbadge, we gotta compare after we install our mufflers. I bought a Type R one for my EK coupe. We can compare the difference between your SiR and my Type R exhaust. Cool?

I don't have and SiR exhaust yet; I'm researching before I make a decision. If I do go the SiR route, then I'd be glad to compare.

A DX midpipe should be the same as a sedan's. So when you say that the SiR muffler will bolt up to Si or DX piping, I don't see why it won't blt up to a sedan's B pipe or downpipe.

I wish bbarbulo was still around because I think he has one on his Sedan.

I am not using SiR muffler on my car, though.

I have an SIR midpipe and muffler on my 98Si. The muffler will bolt on no problem, but on a Hatch the tailpipe is a little long. The EX Sedan has the D16Y8 doesn't it? SIR flanges are only 2 bolts. I think the midpipe won't work though because of the location of the cat on the Y7 motors. You could always borrow or even buy a crappy/rusty SI exhaust just to test fit it. SI is almost the same as an SIR except for diameter and muffler.

There is an SIR for sale for only $60. You could easily sell it if it didn't fit.

nope no difference in sound, just looks nicer IMO, the axleback part sits further in thatn the stock one tho, it doesnt stick out as much, but no biggie... yea the axleback is bolt on also for sedans

DumbasSi, an EX Sedan (and all Canadian EK sedans for that mater) has a Y7 in it. American EX (which is a coupe) has the Y8, but you probably know that already.

I think mind sounds different, but that's my opinion. I always thought the EX Sedan had the Y8 motor.

As Honda Canada want you to buy an Acura EL if you want a 6th-gen. "D16Y8" Civic sedan in Canada. :)

I've been looking into this topic as well and it is very hard to find info on this topic. I've heard that coupes wont fit due to the floor on the sedan is different than the coupe. (True/Not true?)
If anyone works at Honda/Acura or parts store, it might help resolve if someone can post part numbers for the mid pipe and exhaust for coupe and sedan.

Most companies make exhausts for coupe/sedan and a second one for hatches. I'm pretty sure my Apex'i World Sport 2 was for a coupe (they didn't even list it for sedans) and it fit just fine.

was it a cat back or just over axel?

Cat Back. Their website lists these applications for EK Civics (these are american, btw)

104-KH01 Civic Coupe 92-00 EX / Si, DX 92-95

104-KH05 Civic Coupe DX 96-00

104-KH09 Civic H/B DX 96-00

This doesn't mean that OEM exhausts for and EG and EK coupe are the same, but Apex'i doesn't bother making separate ones probably because the differences are tiny, if any at all.

Shorter midpipe with cat on manifold=DX/CX
Longer midpipe with cat downstream=SI/SIR
They are totally different so won't fit.
