Short Shifters....Are They Worth It?

I'm bored with my car, so I'm looking at purchasing a short shifter, what are your opinions on them? BTW, I'm loooking at the B&M. Are they really worth it? Any inputs would be greatly appreciated it.

Thanks,
Fred

Did you install it? How much did the short shifter and bushings cost you?

ya I got a B&M, have had it for 3-4 years, it's berry berry noice - yes it's worth the money unless you like shifting with a broom handle.

I put in a short shift adapter a couple of weeks ago, and it's worth every penny. Shorter, quicker shifts, more positive feel from gear to gear. Changing gears takes more effort, the shifter is more notchy, but in a good way.

I have a Solo short shifter and poly bushings. It completely changed the character of the car. Shifting to 2nd no longer requires your elbow to enter the rear seat area.. lol

Ive had the B&M shifter with the bushines just under 2 years now. I love it! Would not go back to stock throws, after driving with this one.

I have a Skunk2 with the ES bushings. I like it very much. No complaints, but it used to rub on my exhaust until I fixed it.

Shifter 75 bushings 20, I had someone help me put them in, well lets say they did the whole thing, I would have just gotten in the way. But if I would have done it myself, I would have been doing it for hours!

I have the stock shifter cut down a bit with the new bushings and love it. The throws aern't super short like most "short" shifters and not long like the stock unit. IMO it's a good balance between the two.

Cutting a stock shifter does not shorten the throws at all, all is does is require more effort then before to move the now shorter lever the same ammount of distance. I have a short throw shifter in my car and the actual handle is the close to the same lenght as stock but the throws are shortened.

Had a short shifter for a few months in my car. Damn what a difference it makes and installing it wasn't hard at all , just need to put the car on jack stands and take out a couple of bolts underneath and drop it down. The only relatively "hard" part was the exhaust was in the way so I had to take it off the rubber hangers and move it aside.

I'd never cut the stock shifter, throws stay the same, effort increases, and it looks weird...

I have a TWM short shifter, with ES bushings for over a year now and I love it! I'd never go back to stock, everytime I drive a stock car I feel like in a row boat.

It also cleans up the interior alot because it gives you more open space, space that was taken up before by that oar of a shifter.

It does take more effort, but it's barely noticable, and you'll get used to it in a few days, just like anything.

It took me about 2 hours to put in, including everything, and the reason it took so long was cuz i had a problem with the bushings cuz damn MAX Motorsports gave me the wrong set, so I had to go exchange them and bitch blah blah blah to get it all fixed up...

DO IT! it's so worth it
