"Scraping" sound...
Once again, I have another sound
This time it's some sort of scraping sound. I've noticed this sound only appears as soon as I let off the gas while in gear, regardless of what gear I'm in. I can't really here it at higher speeds cuz of the exhaust. As soon as I step on the clutch, the sound is gone, and as soon as I give it gas, the sound is gone as well. Would anyone know what the situation is here?

so in your case, the scraping sound would disappear as well as soon as you stepped on the gas or the clutch?
What exactly is doing that?
How long after did your tranny die out on you?

i havent had it swapped out yet!
if i let off the gas, i can hear this scraping sound, as soon as i step on it, it goes away considerabley, but if i concentrated hard enough, that even while accelerating, u will hear a little screeching noise, going and coming!
if i stepped on the clutch, it would disappear completely!
im not sure what caused it, but bad tranny fluid was one of the factors!
AVOID HIGH RPM downshifting, and engine braking!
yesterday, i was downshifting for the fun of it, and there was this young girl about 14-15 waiting to cross the street, and i was turning right, well, she jumped back, and was scared to hell!
it gets loud, and the shifts become harder!
im not soo mechanically great, but try this, turn your wheel all the way to the left, and accelerate like a sligshot, dont slip the clutch! and notice if u hear a loud screech!

isnt tranny --> transmission, used for automatics, and for standard cars, gearbox???
anyway, i asked 2 mechanics here in mississauga, and my father and brother also vouched that they were right!
ooh and that left turn from a complete stop thing, the screech i was referring to is like gears slipping ( grinding ) kinda noise!
if u let ure car idle, do u hear any kind of strange noise, like metal ***** dancing ??? ( just start her up, take her for a spin about 5 minutes, park and get out of the running car, and listen ......)

god, it's been so long..
i use to be a tranny mech. many many years ago..
i've heard of the grinding release bearing a ton of times, but if i remember right they're constantly making contact with the pressure plate, so it would make the noise almost steadily..
hmmmmm..i'm pretty sure it's "tranny" () related..but whether it's in the actual gearing (input or layshaft) or in the diff. is a hard call w/o actually hearing it..
is it more like a grind or a whine??
that would say either gears (whine) or bearings (grind)..
where'd i put my memory hat tonite??

As for checking for noises after running the car for about 5 minutes, there's no noise.
Aaron: Yup...seems like it's cursed. All this has been happening just this summer. By the way, the tranny is from a 95 Teg LS which had about 25,000 kms on it. So now, it has about 80,000.

i don't think you can mis-align a clutch..
the pressure plate fits onto dowels, so unless they were left out that don't make any sense (imo)
the clutch itself "if" misaligned would correct itself onto the input shaft the first time you used it..
good chance too that you'd never get the tranny back in if this happened..
unless of course the person doing it removed the bearing from the center of the flywheel that keeps the input shaft centered (they call it a bearing, but it's more like a brass bushing that fits into the end of the crank..)

GREAT! I'm in this club now! I just got an engine swap (D16a6 to D16z6 VTEC) at KSR and he changed the clutch for me to the clutch that was from the new engine (used clutch but better condition). Now I have the same noise. It happens when releasing the clutch and pressing the accelerator in first, second and reverse. Ken said not to worry about it but it is embarrasing when reversing out of a spot. It does not always happen in frst and second thought but 70% of the time it does....any suggestions??

I'm pretty sure mine is a problem with the clutch b/c that is the only time that it happens..where's Marty, he's the tranny guy maybe he will know! I'll have to ask KS-R again see if I can get more info from him..

are you guys able to reproduce this sound in neutral??
mess with it some and see if you can..
if so then it's motor up to and including clutch/release bearing..
if not, then it's gotta be tranny and out..
like i said guys, it's been a long long looooonnnggg time..
it'd be nice to get a listen to tho..

doesnt happen in neutral, on when gassing and releasing the clutch in frist and reverse (sometime 2nd). the clutch that was put in was from a 5th gen into my 4th gen. I don't think KSR would have done that tho if it did not fit. I wouldn't thinks its the trany b/c it does not happen once it is in gear even when engine breaking unlike importracer
