Rad Leak
hey i know i have a leaky rad but i have been forced to drive for a bit before i can have it replaced. I often check the level of coolent and it doesn't seem to move yet fluid is still seeping through the seems. i would like to ensure there is no air in my system so i would like to burp it.
i was under the assumption you take the cap off, start the car and let it idle for a bit to burp the system of air.
my question is how long should it sit, and are you supposed to have the heat set on and to full while this is happening????

heat on full, and you wait TWO fan cycles.
however, if your car is like most hondas, removing the cap from the rad won't do **** for you. there is a bleeder nipple close to the thermostat, and THAT is where you bleed the system, since that point is higher up than the rad cap (and incidently, air is lighter than water, so it'll go to the highest point available for it).

you know... this is something I don't often do... but if you're really tight on $ but HAVE to keep driving the car. you can NOT use your heat... but you can pour finly ground coffee beans into your rad. the fine grind will plug any leaks you have, and when you replace the rad, everything will flush out cleanly. the catch is... NO HEAT IN THE CAR!!! cuz you may plug up the heater core.

coffee washes right out
OMG, JSK, you ever watch the Korean movie "my sassy girl" When you said avoid putting the yolk in, I remembered when one of the guys in the movie... he fried up his man juice and put it on a sandwich. and one of the guys was like "where's the yolk?"
LOL

IF you want ghetto styles, a raw egg in the rad works as well.
The egg will cook and plug the leaks.

well it's the seels that are leaking ever so slightly so i don't know if that stuff will work. i ave tried the bars rad stop leak and i think it slowed the leak but didn't fix it. I have changed a rad myself before on my old car and might do it myself this time. would topping the coolent and bleeding it correctly be all that i should know. or should i have it done by a professional.
i have a general knowledge of carsbut not anything past the skill level of replacing axles brakes and balljoints.
what would you rate the proper instalation of a new rad on a 94 hatch
