holy crap people. the whole point of this is to give the guy some opinions on what he should do.. be it put new parts in or diagnose the problem. some people dont know how to diagnose a problem or dont have the proper equipment. sometimes parts need to be repalced anyways as part of a tune up. if i bought a 16 year old car again the first thing id do is replace stuff for a tune up.. and most of the time the o2 is never replaced during its life. sure its kinda expensive but it can save you some gas if you replace it.. same with cap and rotor.. new plugs and wires. im not saying im an expert at anything im just trying to help.. and i know im going to get flamed by some people for this comment, and these people are the ones that drive new people away from this forum. oh well. i guess some people like to be E thugs and pick on people. the more people on here the better. if someone has a problem and other people on here experienced the same problem before then they can say what they did to correct the problem. and if 5 people say 5 different things then the person asking will find out his problem faster. the end

an oxygen sensor is NOT a maintence item.
It's like replacing your balljoint when it has no play, you just don't do it. There are simple tests you can do to determine a lazy or non-functioning o2 (which would throw a code)
It's like a guy complaining about a front end noise and you just say "replace the balljoint" when it could be stab. bar links, CA bushings, who knows. That's why I call you out. I'm not trying to be an e-thug, I just don't like people who throw out names. People come here for good SOLID information, not some online parts replacer.
Behind my dick comments there's reasoning....

as for the original poster, yes, there is something wrong with the car. whether it's the fuel filter, clogged injectors, clogged air filter, bad ignition timing, bad plugs/wires/dizzy cap.... it could be any of those things..... so if you can't test it yourself, find a competent mechanic.

there are test procedures for any 'wear' item on a car, including plug wires dizzy function, etc....
make sure you TEST things before you go replacing them. if you just randomly replace parts in your car, you might end up with a $1500 parts bill and the problem could still persist. so be smart and take all the things ppl here recommended, test the components, and replace ONLY what's necessary. TESTING is the difference between a cheap well running car, and an expensive decent running car.
as for the O2 sensor, there is an easy way to eliminate it as the culprit. Yeah, janz3n is on a mad O2 sensor tear, I dunno why. thing is, if your condition exists both with the engine cold and fully warmed up.... then it's NOT the O2 sensor... the engine doesn't use the O2 sensor until it goes to closed loop operation (which basically means the engine is fully warmed up).
