Performance Questions ???

Alright gang...here's the deal.

In an effort to compile a half decent FAQ about Civic Performance I will be hosting threads to address specific topics.

However, to get the ball rolling I would like you all to help now and show you ignorance. (I mean that in the best way)

Use this thread now to ONLY post questions. Post the things that you do not completely understand or things that you would like to know or things that you feel are important in know how to tune or trick a Civic.

NOBODY is to answer questions in this thread. THEY WILL BE DELETED.

In a week or so I will then be starting threads to address some of the stickier topics and from that compiling the FAQ so that we have a very comprehensive and informative knowledge base.

Disclaimer: I do not claim to be "All knowing". I plan to host threads so that we can all work together to learn and define good explanations. This will also help to flush out misinformation that may not be 100% true.

You dig?

I'll start...

What is octane? How does it affect my motor?

What is a header? How can it improve performance?

Cam gears? Do they help?

Throttle bodies? Is bigger always better?

You get the idea now boyz...so ask away.

1) If I get a complete motor swap, with tanny and ecu etc... Does it come with a new shifter and consol? Gear Box?

2) Will a Port and Polished head or intake manifold give me allot of hp?

3) What exactly is involved with Port and Polish?

the infamous intake question...

"is the hissing noise from my new air intake normal?"

(I've seen this question about a hundred times, thought it should be considered )

why not just simply mount a cone filter at the end of the TB instead of a short ram? a short ram is sucking in hot air anyways, so might as well stick it at the end of the TB. so then if u just have a fitler at the end of the tb, there would be less resistance, and technically, the engine should be able to suck in air with less restriction. but then they say that the tube actually adds velocity to the air being sucked in, and because of the atmospheric differences in pressure inside the engine and inside the tube, the air gets forced into the engine when the valves open. is this true? if so, then why do they make individual throttle bodies for race cars? cos they do not have the tubes and are really short. each cylinder get's it's own tb which is at most 4.5 inches long. there is nothing there go cause any atmoshpheric difference in pressure. please explain?
