over heating B16?
Hey,
Lately i've been noticing that when I drive for long periods like from Markham to mississauga on the 407 (or drive in VTEC a lot)that my hood gets very hot.
It's really noticeable in the rain. I get off the 407 and when I get to a stop light in the rain the hood is steaming a lot. At first I thought it was the exhaust from the guy in front of me but nope, I can see it steam off the hood.
I drive pretty constant with the odd over taking so I dump it into VTEC. When the engine gets up to temp, the temp gauge stays planted right dab in the middle and never moves.
Coolant level when the engine is cold is right at the top of the rad and the reservoir is right at max.
I replaced the coolant with Honda premix about 7 months ago.
Anyone else with a B16 notice this?
Is this something that happens with all B16's?

I have the same issue.. to this day I always think my b16 is too hot. The engine just seems hotter to the touch then most. and I've been throught he same thing where my hood was steaming in the rain, or the whole engine bay for that matter if I ever ran through a huge puddle in the summer.

IMO, Steam from any car when driving in the rain when the engine is hot is normal, especially with lots of puddles around. The water hitting the engine from underneath, etc. I got that from my D engine as well as my B16. As for the temp, it takes mine a while before it guage even gets to mid point, but again I don't go into vtec too often. As for the hood being hot, I haven't really gotten out of the car after a long drive to feel it.

dont forget the b series engines sit a little higher in the engine bay over the stock d series engine, and when u do beat on it the engine will run hotter and the heat rises and your hood will just hold in the heat therefore it will heat up as well
