Fram/Honeywell/Honda USDM OEM. All the same

I guess they'll do if you feel comfortable with glued on cardboard endcaps and plastic parts in your filter

I did a while back when I was bored and curious to see what was inside. I posted the link above but here it is again:

http://www.d-series.org/forums/showthread.php?t=9869

That is the thread I started on D-series.org where i cut open the new small and older large OEM Honda filters (the USDM/CDM versions) and also the FRAM X2 which I had been using on my own Civic at the time. In that same thread on D-series I posted a link to a more in depth and scientific oil filter experiment. Check them out and follow the links.

There are other links as well on Honda-Tech where you can find oil filter cut-outs or information regarding this topic. I will look later and post them here when I find them.

I know one of the H-T threads has alot of people posting that they only run the S2000 filter now.

As far as manufacturing procedures, I know when I saw the cutouts of the filters the FRAM ones look identical to the OEM USDM Honda ones. The new small Honda filters are made by Honeywell which is associated with FRAM. IF they use different manufac procedures, then it would have to be in either the glue they use or the type of cardboard material used to hold the media together. The filter media itself looks the same

**EDIT** This is the link to a site site which did an experiment on a number of different filters:

http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/...6;t=000723;p=1

The very first pic on the above link compares the FRAMs to the OEM Honda ones. The cardboard endcaprs aren't even glued on straight. Compare the pics I posted on D-series to the ones on the link above and decide for yourself.

Found the threads

Here's one thread with some info on the HAMP filters

HAMP filter info

Another thread with pictures and side-by-side comparisons of the HAMPs to the S2000 filter

HAMP vs. S2000 filter

Here are the two different sizes of HAMPs available. The S2000 filters come the same so I'm going to continue to run the large one
