Did you turn the motor to top dead center before installing the new belt?

You won't be able to torque down the crank bolt with hands tools. You'll need an air gun.

A pansy?

Just a bit of info to those who haven't installed a T belt before.

A hand torque wrench won't even work.

You must not have been on this board long enough to know that not everyone is savy when it comes to engine repairs.

you can surely tighten the crank pulley bolt with a torque wrench.. you just also need the other special tool to hold the crank from spinning

but yeah, without that special tool, an air or electric impact wrench is your only bet, i actually had my crank pulley come loose and wobble a little after i did it with just a hand torque wrench.

most mechanics will also put locktite on the bolt, so if you are super paranoid, put some blue locktite on it, and use an impact wrench, you dont want that thing coming off...

Yeah a hand torque wrench will not work if you trying to tighten the thing while the car's in gear. You need to secure the flywheel so it doesn't spin at all and then tighten the bolt and you'll have no problems.

Does the repair manual tell you to use a impact gun to tighten the crank bolt?? No.

Yeah I may not have been on this board long enough but I know that telling someone to go use a tool that they most likely don't have is not very helpful. Tell them how to do it properly with the tools that they do have... unless you don't know how to do it yourself... in that case just shut the hell up.

cuz most of us keep an assortment of air tools and a 6hp compressor in our back pockets, right? idiot

I know at least 3 ppl with the crank tool. We did a waterpump about 4 months ago with no air tools... we did have the crank tool though.

Isn't that what ohmstable meant? That you DON'T need air tools..

I think he meant not everyone has the crank holder tool, so don't tell ppl to use tools they don't have. IMO, if you don't have the tools, don't do the work.

Wher can one purchase the crank holder tool?

Is it a different part for B and D series motors?

Honda dealers can order the tool for you. But you can make one easily... well, maybe not YOU, but someone skilled in light fabbing work. haha

All you do is take a big nut of the same size as the hexagon shape in the crank pulley, and you weld it to a long peice of flat bar, then you drill a large enough hole through it to fit a 17 (or was it 19mm??) socket through it. Voila!

- Remove the starter
- Wedge a prybar into the flywheel!

Not the best way but it works..

That's what I was trying to say.. people don't have airtools and compressors so don't just come out and say "you'll have to use an impact gun". When in almost all cases all you need are good hand tools and the brains to know how to use them properly..

And for all you suckers trying to tighten crank pulleys retaining bolts with a ratchet.. please stop doing that... you're going to destroy your car when it flys off

Just for the record just because someone has a shop does not mean they are in any way proffesional. Knowledge is key. Specific knowledge of type of car is even better, Not how many tools someone has in their shop.
