i'm pickin up a zex kit 55shot....for my civic...it's non vtec sohc...yes..it's very very slow....the kit should be here in about a week or two....

i need to noe what i would need to get my car ready for the kit...

here's what i have in mind.

tune up and compression test
timing belt
2 degrees colder plugs

do i need anything else? where's a good place to get a tune up and a compression test?

You'll be fine as long as those compression #'s turn it good. Also consider doing a leak down test to be on the safe side. 55 shot isn't that much.

And i just wanna add if this were me, I'd make sure I had emergency money available for a swap if the motor blows.

Moving to performance tech...

RT does compression and leakdown tests, and a TCC affiliate too.

A few things you might want to consider is having your ignition system upgraded with a MSD to give your motor an ignition cut instead of a fuel cut. This will give the motor a little more protection. Although the Zex kit does have a controller to automatically shut off the when the engine is under load and before redline.

Bottle warmer, purge valve, and remote switch are also some goodies that can help too.

Have the ignition and fuel system serviced if neccessary, and ignition timing retarded a bit.

So you're going NNNOOOSSSS.. eh.. Better save you an auto tranny.

Not sure about nitrous oxide systems on OBD2 cars.. So don't be too surprised if you don't get much gains after you install the kit. So a word of caution.

Sweet, spray spray spray...i'm considering the same route for my Si, i know i'm gonna end up getting a hole somewhere on the head/block. no point for me doign any kind of testing as my motor is like half *** already and the NOS is just gonna finalize the deal

If you want a demo on Zex speak with Steve (JDM Hatch).

The guy has sprayed his stock D16 motor and went through about 12 bottles last summer trying to blow the thing (on a 55 shot I think). Granted he does have an auto tranny.

I looked seriously at Nitrous before deciding to prep my car for turbo.

First: Its not NAWWWWWWWWWS or anything like that.. NOS is a company and a brand of nitrous kit Anything else is Nitrous or N20. (Don't wanna see you get laughed at your first big day out).

Second: MSN Window Switch is the item you want with 3600 and 6800 RPM pills (to turn the N2O on and off at certain intervals so you don't slam into redline while spraying).

Third: Bottle warmer is necessary for peak gains because it ups the bottle pressure (hence the N20 to fuel ratio)

Fourth: Purge kit looks cool as hell but is also a necessary thing.. Get it. It helps remove any and all moisture from your lines allowing fresh nitrous into the engine. When you spray this stuff there is NO sense being cheap about it or it will cost you an engine.

Fifth: I would highly disagree with getting a remote bottle opener or you will be tempted to use N2O waaaaaay too many times on the street. Remember, putting N20 without a "Transportation of Dangerous Goods" license in Ontario is illegal.

Sixth: On a 55 shot you do not have to retard your timing at all. This will affect your driving when you are NOT on the bottle. Go to Zex's website and read up on their online instructions. Retarding the timing is for 65 and up shots.

That about sums up my ranting and raving. Like they say though, you play with this stuff and you better be prepared to go to a backup engine just incase.

Regards,
OK

Actualy, It is not illeagal to have "nos" in a privately owned vehicle.... No "PLACARD" is nessesary . I have a note on this in one of my files...(it only becomes illegal if you can turn the thing on from the front seat..ie remote bottle opener or if it's in your back seat....if it disconected from the engine, your ok) When I find it, I'll send it to Duy to post it for me.

I would appreciate that greatly! Post that stuff up as soon as you get it then I will compare it to what the rules in Halton Regional are regarding it and we'll see what we turn up.

I was looking into a Zex kit very seriously about 2 months back and one of the things holding me back was the fact that those fines (transporting dangerous goods) are stiff ones, not to mention that your vehicle can be impounded if the officer should choose to and that was a BIG no no as far as I was concerned.

The thing I DIDN'T understand is that if you can transport propaine from the gas station to and from your BBQ then what is the big deal about a lil nitrous.. Its still a compressed gas within a container built for that specific purpose but again, I didn't want to run the risk of debating this with an officer.

OK
