Nebie, What are the common engine swaps
OK I am new to doing any hoda performance Basic 94 civic 5 speed.
What are the common engine swaps for performance
My interest is to learn and install a turbo so I will require enough engine bay room to accomidate this with the swap.

worry less about the space that's required for your future turbo, but common and good swap for turbo would be a B18b engine that's completely rebuilt. Of course if you really want mad amounts of power, go with a crvtec and then turbo it
umm, I wouldn't dare say that the crvtec swap is a common swap, but that'd definetely help you make mad amounts of power
Talk to Jugglez more about the B18b setup, he's the closest one to acheiving what you're looking at HTH

Common swaps into 5th Gen Civics are....
ZC - This is the lowball addition to the swap catagory
B16A2 - for 5th gen this is best bang for the buck IMHO
B18B - This is for those who don't want VTEC
B18C - Very hard motors to find, expensive to install
H22A - For those who plan on staying N/A but want the HP right away (13 seconds, stock)
ZC: I would stay away from the ZC, everything I've heard about it (from folks who have owned them) leads me to believe they are expensive motors to maintain and have a habit of going kaboom.
B16A2: This is what I have in my car simply because I wanted the HP right away and liked the addition of VTEC. There is an urban legend about VTEC and turbo but I've done some exhaustive research and haven't found anything wrong with turbo and VTEC. I've built my B16 and will be running 15lbs of boost as soon as I can afford the turbo.
B18B: This seems to be the way that alot of folks are going. There are two possible reasons.. A) You get less hp but a little bit more torque than the B16. B) Its a cheaper price and allows money to be spent elsewhere. I think its a combination of both. Also the urban legend about Turbo and VTEC (B18B doesn't have VTEC)
B18C: - Forget it.. Unless you don't care if the stuff you are buying is stolen you will be paying an large sum of money for one of these motors and probably waiting for a couple of months.
H22A: - Very cool motor to drop into a Civic but again its a bit expensive.. Its about $6500 for this swap because there is some modification that needs to be done to the engine bay to have this sucker shoe horned in there. I mean it REALLY doesn't leave a whole lot of space in a 5th gen engine bay!!!!! I watched one being done last week. The advantage is you can pull mid 13's with this engine in a 5th gen hatchback on street tires.
Hope this was informative for you. and remeber, these are strictly MY opinions and not necessarily those of the club or those that are correct.
