My Top Choices for Winter Tires

I'm looking at 4 brands right now that I'm gonna slap on my stock rims for Winter

1. Kumho KW11
2. Toyo Observe G02 Plus, or Toyo Garrit HT
3. Pirelli W210
4. Nokian Haka 1

prices are ranked in order (1 being cheapest) however I'm not all that concerned with budget.. but would still like to pay for what I'm getting..

Nokian's I know by far are the best, but they're almost double the cost of the Kumho's (which have gotten decent reviews)

Just wondering if anyone would share some testimonial's or offer some advice?

Also, would a lower profile "benefit" me at all during winter? I'm guessing not too much besides the looks... stock tire size on my rims are 195-60-15

btw check out our prices for Steelies & Winter Tires for your Civic

Yeah the Nokian are the best....I had a set and sold them for 350 with steelies with about 85% rubber on them...I talked to the buyer and he loved them. If money isnt a problem get those...

I heard any winter tire (even the cheapest ones) is gonna be 10 times better than all-season/summer tires when it comes to snow, so I just went ahead and got myself a cheap set of Hercules and it worked well for me last season. Never heard of Hercules? You are not the only one! Oh well, they were cheap, only $290 cash price back then. I suppose the Kumho's will serve you equally well.

BTW, check out Toronto Integra's group buy. They have special deals from Wheels Direct and the prices are really good! I wish I knew about them last year.

you would want a skinner tire but lower profile wouldn't affect anything.... i just got some hot motomaster ice tracs.... i'm going by the saying any snow tire will be better then all seasons

you had the Hakka 1's ?? well these tires are used for rallying, so I know they're the best... I guess it also depends on what the primary use is for... like for our winters, we mostly get slush... not too many times we're gonna have deep snow.. and most of the winter tires out there now are good on ice...

why did you sell yours? and for so cheap?!

Thanx man.

Btw, what's your opinion on the Blizzak MZ-02 and WS-50 compared to the KW11 and Haka 1?

ya.. any winter tire for sure will be better than all-season.. but the 4 that I listed are supposed to be best overall in terms of tire wear, noise, grip etc...... like other's such as the Blizzaks' are really good for grip, but wear out like a bitch... and they're kinda pricey... the ones I listed are in my opinion the best investment for the long run... I'd rather pay $400-500 for a set that'll last me 3-4 seasons than $200-300 that'll last 2-3 seasons..

I've been driving on a set of Hakka 1s for the last two winters.

They're a great tire, but for acceleration and stopping, there is not a lot of difference between them and a less expensive winter tire (comparing to a friend's goodyear ultragrips.)

The big difference is when you put the car sideways at speed. The hakkas bite and scrub speed, and work great at high slip angles; it is easy to prolong the slide and control where the car is pointing.

Great if you're rallying, but I'm willing to give up some deep snow and ice performace in exchange for some dry / wet performance, where 80% of my driving will be done.

Blizzak's are good tires.. but I've heard horror stories with their tread wearing too fast.. like you'll probs be fine with them for 1-2 seasons.. then the third season you'll be just as bad as running all seasons...

Hakka 1's are by far the best tire.. but pricey... and KW11's are a general good tire all around.. not the best, but not the worst.. but awsome value...

for me, I'm gonna stick with the BEST, and that'll be the Hakka 1's... they use em for rallyin' so I can't go wrong there
