hey guys, my uncle just got a 2000 civic and he wants to get some more power under his foot. im in sort of a dilemma here as i dont know what to suggest to him other than an Intake, and perhaps a GSR or type R exhaust as he doesnt like loud exhaust n stuff....
is there anything else he can do to the motor that can squeeze out a lil more power. and also are the 2000 civic SE VTEC?

if yes then no vtec.

well anyway, i guess basic bolt ons. intake, headers, exhaust. its not really gonna be noticable or anything.maybe swap a different engine in?

ya bolt ons on that motor wont give anything near the value of parts... maybe put on a sohc vtec head or soemthing turbo it?

not worth it man, bolt ons are fine and dandy but for the price and power increase your just burning a whole in your pocket, now with the RSX S its a diff story, but for the D, unless your going serious and drop a new motor or turbo/super then bolt ons are a waste IMO, you will probably feel you wasted money, unless you made all your own by hand

Not really worth doing any bolt ons really,
turboing would be a nice, cheap if u go with a homemade turbo kit, it's a much better alternative to swapping out the engine. and u'll feel the difference.

But if u got the money....go all out...swap that D16y7 Out as much as it hurts me to say. . .

i used to be into the building of a d series motor... but honestly they are just so weak... no potential... boosting has limits and when you get close to those limits your break things... just swap it out

they are weak... connecting rods are like pencils... cylinder walls are 6 mm thick... heads dont flow... they just weren't meant to make reliable power... and are expensive to build like any motor... so why not just start off with something like a b16 that already makes the power of a built d16? and still retains honda reliability

d series are not that costly to build, ive seen a couple of them done for very cheap, like any motor though its gonna cost labour.

D series has lots of potential people just give up on them too quickly, dont bother doing research and are quite frankly, very ignorant about it

well the way i looked at it... i could spend $2000 building that d16... get 140 whp and no torque... or spend 1000 more and have an h22 i got caught up in the coolness of having a built d16 but then found out why so few people have it...

Even an Auto Turbo'd D Series engine is a pretty kool machine to drive. . .

In all reality, is your uncle a car enthusiast willing to go all throught that? Most liley no. Average old folks don't want an engine swap, going to manual conversion...They just want a little boost of what they have.

I say just do basic I/H/E and call it a day.
