Maintaining Coilovers?
How exactly do you maintain coilover sleeves. The R1's for example. In winter can you just raise and drive as normal, or do you need some sort of lubrication on them. Or is it possible to switch back to stock springs in the winter and then back to coilovers in the summer? how long will your stock shocks last on the R1 coilovers. If you get KYB AGX's along with the R1's will the ride quality be similar to that of H&R Coilovers?
Thanks Joker:thumbup: |
You don't.
Face it they ALL seize if driven a few winters. Grease em up like a bitch before winter and take extra care cleaning in the winter. Both kind's of coilovers need a removable boot or something to protect the threaded components. Everyone I know who has tried has failed no matter how vigilant. The record is 3 winter's. 5 adjustments. :D |
Im only lowering my car around 1.8" / 1.5" so Ill just set it and forget it

but can you swap with stock springs every winter without greasing them ?

Originally posted by loudsubz Yeh, can always do that, but gotta get an alignment done each time. |
Originally posted by jaysi Don't you have to get an alignment anyway? I heard you should get an alignment whenever you raise/lower your coilovers drastically. (ie raise in winter then lower in summer) |
what can happen when u dont?
also will i need a camber kit? If they stay on throughout winter what do i need to spray on them and how do i spray it, i can do it at home with the car jack right? |

I think the camber adjustment needs to be there period..
Some will argue.. I know some people without. Depends or rim size and offset as well.. Just so everyone is on the same page.. [window]www.whiteline.com.au/faqsusp01.htm[/window] |
what exactly happens when coilovers seize?
what exactly should you use to lube them ? |
1. Can't adjust the collars
2. Anti-seize or chassis grease (Loctite/Castrol) |
