lowering my car
i want to lower my 96 civic ex, so i'm looking for some used springs........so anyone recommand some brands?
can i just buy the springs, or i have to buy other parts too? i just want to lower it.....make it look nice anyone give me advice on some used springs plz i'm looking to spend around $100, since i got an intake last week.....kinda short on $$ thanks |
Search in the Classified Forum and you might be able to find a set for around that price. But you need labour to swap the springs.

Just save up over the winter. Why lower your car a few weeks before the snow hits?

ya, plus to do it right you still need shocks too if you plan on lowering more then like 1". but also, you won't find aftermarket springs for $100 unless you buy unsafe cheap quality ebay ones, so its just not realistic. if you can't afford to lower it now, wait till after winter and do it right, not cheap $50 coilovers that will just blow your stock shocks causing more money for new shocks, plus paying for installation twice and alignment. yes, you need an alighhment when you lower or raise the car and that alone is $100.
For springs without shocks you need $350 ($150-for used springs, $100 for install and $100 for alignment) for springs/shocks you need $800 atleast $400 shocks, $150 springs, $100 top hats, bump stops etc, $100 install, $100 alignment. if you can find springs/shocks fully assembled, then you won't need the top hats and bump stops. So save up till you can atleast afford it, plus lower more then 1.5" you'll blow your stock shocks most likely. could be right away, could be 2 years...depends on the shape of your shocks. plus lowering right before winter is not smart, its snow and you need some ground clearance, lowering your car on purpose right before is a waste, if you've lowered it in the summer and you have to go through the winter, you have no choice, but by lowering now you have a choice. |

you CANNOT lower your car for 100 bucks. dont cheap out on the springs and if you plan on lowering invest in aftermarket shocks aswell.

i got springs 88-00 civic theres 2 longer then the other 2 which would be concidered front and rear ? or does it matter ? |
well maybe around $150-$200 if i try to save money

If i were you i would invest in a decent suspension setup, on my car im using KYB AGX struts with H&R sport springs. But i do know quite a few people that use the stock strut and are just using a lowering spring. The best aftermarket springs for a stock strut are probably H&R sport or Tein. They don't lower the car all too much so it wont be too hard on stock struts. |

I believe it is the front springs that are longer.
Also if they are stock springs you should be able to determine the difference by the diameter of wire used to make the spring. The diameter of the front spring wires is larger than that of the rear. |

depends on what you think is better
too low of a drop and you'll need a camber kit also gotta worry about hitting stuff also itll get much rougher will handle a crapload better etc... lots of pro's and cons |
EK civic, i'd go H&R sports, its 1.75" front and 1.5" rear and spring rates are 330F/280R but progressive, meaning the more it compresses the stiffer it is, so it provides a damn nice ride. I had those with Tokico Illuminas and the ride was actually better then stock when the shock was set soft, set the shock firmer and ride was more firm (makes sense eh).
or Neuspeed Race is 2.0" front and 1.75" with stiffer rates then the H&R sport. used H&R sport can be picked up for between $150-$175 depending on the condition, mileage, etc. there are some in the classifieds right now. Tokico Illumina/H&R sport is a popular combination. Any lower then 1.75"/1.5" and it does become a pain in the ass like Hdave stated, even with H&R sports some speed bumps are hard. H&R sports req a camber kit unless you want to have camber wear on your tires. When I had the kit, I had an alignment and best they could get the camber at was at -2.25 degree's all around and I liked it because of the handling, but it will wear tires alittle faster on the edges. - camber kit: $150 front, can get away with the washer trick rear (Search for washer trick) - alignment: $100 - springs used: $150-$175 - shocks used: $300-$500 for average or cheap shocks - installation: $100 (unless you or buddies have air tools and know how to do it) its not cheapm even to do it half-assed its not cheap, but do it right and its a great improvement over being stock. do it half-assed and its another ricer mod as the car will bounce all over the place, probably not have an alighnment cause the person didn't want to or could'nt pay for it...save up, do it right. also too low will just bounce even it done right, a 2.5-3" drop may look cool, but ask that person how it handles and how fun driveways are... |

1.8" cost me 55$ off ebay Eibach Sportlines 55$ Air tools spring compressor 40$ Alignment 80$ Total 175$ |
