Lightened Flywheel

I've been thinking about lightening my flywheel. The question then is do I have my original flywheel machined or should I buy one. Has anyone had an experience with lightening their existing flywheel? I know it will be quite a bit cheaper (which is nice), but I don't want to jepordize quality. Any advice would help.

Thanks in advance

Fidanza ones now retail for just under $300. They are excellent quality. I would gladly spend the extra $200 over lightening a stock one cause it will be lighter and safer.

to lighten the flywheel it is 285 with tx plus install and rember it has to be balanced as well, you wont compromize the durability of the flywheel unless you go super light. I am surprised at lightening for a bill that is what it costs to resurface. The stock flywheel is better than an after market one for 300 more durable. Mine went from around 15 pounds to just under 9 and no problems at all

I was told that is was going to be under $100 bux to have my stock one lightened. If I thought that it was going to be around $300, then I never would have considered it and just gone with an aftermarket one. Wonder why I was told it was so cheap....

Leitner does all of my machining, I run a small repair and performance shop and I have never seen a flywheel for a honda civic be lightened for less than 200. Most all of the shops in the gta get their stuff done from Steve and it is alot more than 150 for wholesale. If you have seen any of the work that Leitener performance does you will know that it is worth all the money and you are dealing with people who KNOW what is what when it comes to engines. How much weight did you get off your flywheel? If someone is doing them for 100$ let me know I will get 10 done tomorrow!!

I had leitner do my lightened flywheel too.

it was lightened quite a bit and not a problem yet. it's been over a year.

as for pricing, well, being an actual member of TCC has its perks. Steve and Leitner treat TCC members very well in terms of services and pricing.

that's a bunch of horse dung, i got mine done for a little under two hund, and that was a friggin deal. lemme know where you get yours done, i will see their work, prolly jus put your flywheel on the brake lathe and cut it like they are machining rotors
hahah..are you sure you're not thinking of resurfacing that is almost 100$ from most shops..anyway..

buy a lightweight one... I know for a fact that you can only remove about 2-3 lbs from the stock one, not really worth the hassle/money.

me personaly wouldn't take more than 2-3 pounds off the stocker....if you have the money to get a aftermarket one then do it cause it will be worth it, but if not then go to a place that is perfessional like leitner and get one from there...I think I remember they have alot in stock so you woudl jsut exhange it and have it same day....

I'll agree it's not advisable to shave off too much off the stocker. however leitner's work speaks for itself, and i haven't had any problems after just over a year of having it done. would i have another shop shave 5-7 lbs off the stocker? probably not.
