Kyb Gr-2
heyy...i was just wondering if the KYB GR-2 shock is any good for a 93 civic hatch....i dont know anything about cars so heres a newb question...whats the diff between a shock nd strut?
|
KYB GR-2 Shocks are only good for OEM replacement.
|
shocks-struts, all the same ish homie. gr-2 will give u a good ride on a non-aggresive drop but like devil said its more of an oem-replacement. if u want cheap go wid tokico blues
|
Shocks and struts are similar in that they both damp (slow down) the vehicles motion. The key difference of a strut vs. a shock is that a shock only controls the cars motion while a strut is a locating member of the suspension. What this means is that if you remove a shock the spindle or axle will still be completely attached to the vehicle. If you remove a strut the spindle or axle will be able to move outside of its normal motion. Shocks and struts may or may not have a spring mounted to them either. It is often assumed that any damper with a spring is a strut, this is not the case.
Do some Homework guys. They are not the same. |
i dont care enuf to do any! lol
I drive a civic so Im familiar with struts, not a monster truck that i need to kno abt shocks |

well i work at napa, soo i thought i could get cheap shocks from there.....sooo what are the cheapest shocks that i can get thatll do the job and not break or anything? cuz i have ractive coilover sleeves in my room nd i kinda wanna use then ;)
|
whats cheap??
|
Cheap and probably very stiff sleeve coilovers will ruin a lower-end shock like a GR2 in no time. Don't bother with the cheap coils and buy a decent lowering spring.
The cheapest performance shock that will handle a drop without giving a crappy ride or blowing in a short time would be the Koni Red. They are about $500. |

just get a shock with a lifetime warranty, then just replace them as they go, since you work at NAPA anyways. werd? werd :)
|
that would be alright if you wanted to change them all the time (depending on your drop) Plus eventually companies start to question returns,, I use to work at Vaughan automotive.
do it right the first time and its less hassle. It would also help everyone help you out if you hinted at how low you want and if ride quality matters |
u cheap out now and unless ur willing to change them every 1-2 years u'll end up paying more... i ended up paying alot more cuz **** started fuking up wen i rode stock shocks on springs
|
welll i wanna do like a 2.5-3 inch drop....and im not really into modifying my car a lot, i just want to lower it cuz itll look a bit better, but i dont want to spend a lot as in more then $250, is there any places in the GTA where i can get lowering springs for up to $200??
|
you'd probably wanna go coil-overs. But its going to be bouncy as hell and if you dare to do it on stuck struts I give it a week before you blow at least 2. Spend the money and do it right.
that low, done right should be about $800 roughly. Theres pros and cons to everything. pro: looks good, handling etc con: costs a lot, ride quality etc I suggest doing lots of research you wanna go that low just for looks and you want to be cheap in doing so Thats my opinion anyways |
wellll iunnno to me $800 to make your car look a bit better is a lot of money, i found some lowering springs, with a 2.5inch drop, but can i put those on my stock struts? or will i have to buy those too?:S

Originally posted by Kingjames1983 Spend the money and do it right. that low, done right should be about $800 roughly. I'd look for short forks, perhaps even custom lower control arms, in order to attempt to maintain the correct geometry. you can't take away 3 inches of suspension travel and expect that it would be 'done right'. no way. |
i was told that my lowering springs are a 3 inch drop. i bought kyb gr-2's hope it rides ok. if it sucks i can alsways buy some different springs.
|
I was just saying 800 cause I get k sports for 900
I also can get some 2.5 drop springs for 250 and tokico illiumias for 600 Thast why I said 800 but after that should have been min I'mn dyslexic its ok... I've learned to deal with it lol |
